I knew a guy right after high school when I was a motor head that had one of these Boss 429 Mustangs. I thought about that once in a while over the years. About twenty years later I was doing a job at a house, and when I went into the garage, that same car was sitting there. When the husband came home that evening, it was the same guy I knew before and he still had the Boss in pristine condition. :)

66 chevy 2 nova hardtop. mine had a 10000 rpm small block 283 with herbert rev kit, litghtened flywheel and super t-10 4 speed, and 10 bolt posi. one of my faster street cars. could not kill that motor.......around 9500 prm it would vibrate the car so hard the rear view mirror fell off the window

Sorry to all you american fan's but I have been a fan of the sport imports for a long time.

300zx twin turbo (can make over 500hp with less than 6k investment). Can't beat that!

What about a chopped 50' Merc. with side pipes? That has to be one of my favorites.

 Nice hot rod, but not considered a muscle car.

Couple cars no one thinks of is the Studebaker Avanti and Hawks with the R3 engine option.
Another Stude was the Super Lark with 289 dual 4bbls. Big time sleeper !! :)

My favorite would have to be the Shelby Cobra !

Next question. What's your definition of a "muscle car"? Brian

Brian, you just opened up a big can of worms ! :D

Another argument that comes up, is it a Hot Rod or Street Rod, not refering to muscle cars ?

My defination of muscle cars.........American factory cars built from 1961 to 1971.

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T With a 426 Hemi Crossover with Dual Quads. It was an instant 11 second quarter mile Machine from the Factory. I bought it new in December 1969. Of Course, i am sorry today that i sold and what it would be worth today at a Barrett - Jackson Classic Auto Auction.

Makes my heart race ! All these cars fit the bill . (EXCEPT ONE) HOWEVER , a 62 chevy 409 factory dual carters 4speed , while not the fastest did the greatest burnouts ever seen ! STU hit it on the head there ! 61 had 413s 392s 409s ruling drag strips 71 compression ratios dropped killing the muscle car . most purists however agree on johns 64 gto as the first true factory muscle car :)

So many to choose from....69 Yenko/Copo/ZL1 Camaro would be nice 70 Chevelle ss396 (I'd rather have a 375hp 396 car personally), 70 Boss 302 or 429, 70-71 Hemi Cuda, Superbirds, Daytonas....lots of cool stuff. 70 Olds 4-4-2, 70 GTO.....and I own them all. They're just not large enough to drive:D:D:D

I think "most" people would roughly define a "muscle car" as a 64-72 car that was optioned with higher horsepower engine. There are variances, but that seems to be the normal "range". I just think that DeLorean hasn't coined any new nicknames for other classes:)
Is an 87 Grand National a muscle car? Not by the typical definition, but it was one awesome car for it's time. Maybe "80's muscle" or something, as was an Iroc or Firebird or Mustang 5.0. Cars from my "era".

some of the better ones I owned..

1966 GTO convert--- 389 tri-power 4-sp red/white not the fastest but loved the fit

1969 GTO--- Here come da JudgeMosi--- Ram air IV 4-sp
Orange (ok-- carousel red )/white again not the fastest but loved the size and power.

1970 Buick GS Stage 1--- 2nd best sleeper car I owned...
...455 automatic black/black--- looked like a nice little car until you mashed the throttle and people noticed the Stage 1 insignia.
One of the fastest stock cars I owned.

1970 340 Duster 4-sp. #1 sleeper car-- kept that when the insurance companies were cracking down. Bigger jets, ignition rework, and a set of headers to replace the crimped stock exhaust and you were driving one of the quickest fun cars that the ins co. did not know about.

I think I will stop before I get to some of the others. I'm going to return to my corner and :banghead: then cry for a few hours...

... all those mentioned on this thread... were CARS!!! :D
