Big water problems on Texoma

As most are aware, we have had quite a bit of rain this past month in Texas. Lake Texoma is huge at the moment and growing quickly. We're currently close to 626 level, which is 7-8ft above conservation level, and it's expected to reach 633 by July 4th. The 633 is conservative estimate if the rain begins to stop. At the projected level, we'll have 8ft of water in our parking lot. Here's the situation from the corp:

US ARMY CORP UPDATE

The current forecast crest on Lake Texoma is now 633.0 on/about 07/04/07.

Pool elevation is 625.39 feet on Wednesday 27Jun07 Time: 1000 hours.

Projected releases are to increase to 18,000 cfs midday on the 28th.

This is all a prediction and can be upset by significant rain fall.

The US Army Corps Spillway ramp is open at this time.

Boat ramps that are closed are:

Cedar Mills
Cedar Bayou
Little Mineral
Eisenhower
Lakeside South and West
Juniper Point East & West
West Burns Run
Platter
Johnson Creek
Caney Creek

All Campsites are closed at:

Cedar Bayou
Little Mineral
Lakeside
East Burns Run
West Burns Run

Other closed sites include:

Juniper
Buncombe Creek
Caney Creek

The I35 bridge over the Red River may be closed later today because of massive trees in the river.

The first pic is Highport's parking lot. The parking lot will be 8ft deep by the 4th. The second pic is Pompano's Bar at Highport. The water level will reach the the roof. Looks like it's going to be a screwed up 4th for Texoma boaters.

By the way, I might add that anyone going boating on Texoma needs to be aware that there's lots of debris floating....tractor tires, parts of trees, etc, so go about your boating slowly if you're a diehard boater like me.

Here's a couple of pics from the city of Sherman from this past week. Sherman is located about 10 miles from Lake Texoma. This type of flooding has been going on all over north Texas for the past few weeks.

Bad news :

We had flash floods here yesterday and McGrath Creek is still rising and feeding into the Wichita River which feeds into the Red River, which --- you guessed it -- feeds into Lake Texoma. It`s getting crazy with all this rain !

Here's a shot of my high end, upscale boathouse. My boat is the one behind the little storage room connected to the boathouse. The boathouse only has about 4ft of pole left at the top. And the lake will rise by another 7ft or so. I'll be making a run up tomorrow to check on things. By the way, this pic is from our parking lot.

Well its not going to stop me. I am leaving OKC on Friday morning and staying for the week.

Catfish Bay has boat ramps that can handle the high water and Carlottas will continue to float.

So if anyone else is going bring your bumpers and anchors the beaches are gone!!!

Man that's horrible looking. Luckily we've had almost a perfect amount of rain here this year. Lakes are still lower than they were several years ago but that comes from several dry winters now.

Look at it on the bright side, there's now another gas station and a burger king that you can get to by boat :laugher:

Carlotta's will stay open up to spillway crest so it may be the only thing open. I think Catfish bay is 1 of the only 2 Marina's still able to sell gas due to a different type of gas line configuration. I heard Alberta Creek has already closed.

Watching the level come up, it's rising at a rate of just a hair under 1" per hour and the flood gates are still closed and will likely stay that way for a while. And the rain keeps coming and coming and the run-off from previous days hasn't even done it's damage yet.

The rest of the more popular lakes near DFW are way over also and most, if not all ramps are closed as are several complete parks.

This really sucks for next week.

Oh, and Travis is out of control. This is bizarre and getting scary considering flood gates are closed every where and lake levels are coming up to filling flood pools so it'll have nowhere to go but over the spillways which means downstream can't be protected anymore.

What a difference from last year when everything started out low. We're talking 10-15' lower than now and that was at it's peak.

I AGREE!!!!!

“Weren’t you talking about a drought a few weeks ago?
You guys don’t do anything half arse in Texas.”

Thanks for the info and pics MGT! I was wondering what was going on up there. There is suppose to be a family gathering next month at Cedar Mills about the 27th, but looks like it may be in jeopardy! This year about February, there were quite a few lakes locally that were as much as 15-18’ below normal levels from 2 years of below normal precipitation. Now these same lakes are anything from 3’ (Lake Levon) to 7’ (Lake Lewisville) to 10’ (Lake Grapevine) above the normal. That’s a difference of about 28’ for Grapevine!!!The trees around here are so full of growth that it seems the tree trimmers that contract with the power companies can’t keep up. Good luck keeping the grass mowed! Trees in my yard will absolutely bombard me this fall with acorns and leaves from all the weather. :bandit: :rambo:

This is some crazy chit. It`s raining right now. . .

There is a local guy missing. He fell in the river 2 days ago. They spotted his body yesterday, but couldn`t get to him. They think he will might be carried to Texoma before they can retrieve his body.

It's pretty nasty around here, that's for sure. Lake Lewisville is up 7 feet already.....and there's a lot more rain in the forecast. My Mom is at her lake house with my daughter and niece this week in Marble Falls, TX. They got 19 inches of rain on Tuesday night and most of the small town is shut down :( Our weekend lake plans are now cancelled.
