boat I'm looking at, opinions?

I'm looking at this boat. It's a bit old, 1981, 38 Excalibur. I wold like to know what people know about the 38 Excalibur, and the motors. The motors are freshly rebuilt in 2001, they have maybe 45 hours on them since. as you can see the interior is like new , it was redone in 2000, the outdrives were brand new in 2000 also, the port side Huber transmission was rebuilt in 2001, i had the other one rebuilt last year by Huber, Mechanically and cosmetically the boat is in excellent condition, fresh paint and clearcoat in 2000 also, the boat gets alot of looks, people think its a much newer one than it is, the engines are 510s with Blowers, the boat runs a true 80 M.P.H.

The boat looks great. Looks much newer than actual. The motors and drives are probably worth the asking price. Looks like a great deal. Probably want a survey done on the boat. This may cost you a few hundred but, with a boat that old you'd hate to run into major hull problems.

I've always been told that "clearcoating" is not the way go. The clearcoat will not hold up as well as gelcoat ??

heavy boats, the trs drives and the age are the only down sides I see , get it surveyed and see what they say, great price you could sell it for parts,

It looks shape some body did alot of work on it Resale might be an problem but if you like it it's a lot of boat for that price jest my .02 :bigsmile:

The motors alone are worth at least 20 grand or so without exhaust. I sold 2 509 850HP for $24,000 without exhaust. Just make sure to get it surveyed,,looks like a nice boat.

ok...Karen and I checked it out. Get it surveyed, get the engines tested (compression, leak down etc), take it for a sea trail and if everything looks ok - BUY IT!

I went and looked at it tonight and it looks Goooodd. It's in really nice shape. I'm taking it for a ride as soon as we can work it out. Contingent on a survey I'm buying.
It is documented, and I'll have it in registered in PA, is it true that I won't have to pay sales tax on it?

Make sure to double check the interior for any rotting wood. That boat sat in my area uncovered for a long time last summer. Other than that nice boat.

Get 2 receipts, one for what you paid and one for the registration for PA
they dont check in PA
just tell them what you paid for it and boom your good,

Way I look at it, Tax was paid on it when she was new, why do they insist on double dipping on the taxes?

what issues?
granted there is one pics that you can not identify when it was taken exactly but I do see a 97-98-99 vette by the rims sitting there so that pic could be VERY old.
im sure it was easy to get all tingly over those motors and overlook other things.
Keep looking, there are TONS of perf boats out there right now.
