Hey Guys! I'm new to this forum and I just bought a 24ft 1990 Villain III. It has a new 454 (not sure if it's mag or not) and Bravo 1. Boat is mint. White and Black. I bought this because growing up we had an 88 Villain III and i loved it.

My question is that I'm running a 21 Mirage + prop. Holeshot is slightly sluggish and top end is only about 58-60. Is there a prop out there i should use for more top end and not raising the bow so much in the hole? Also the original motor was a Volvo. The original owner was a certified Merc tech & replaced it with a Merc 454 & Bravo 1 so he had to put a special transom plate in. Thanks for any thoughts.

wow i love to see more Villain owners out there. Do you guys have pics of yours? Im posting mine shortly. Anyway about the prop im getting 58-61 per the gps (garmin 540s brand new). I have been hearing great things about the hydromotive props for our boats because of the fact that we need stern lift. I'm just not sure which pitch cause i want more top speed, however i do not want to loose the hole. I know you can't have both. Mine came with a 19p revolution 4 for the watersking prop. The hole shot was fabulous, however top end was only about 5052 so i sold it on ebay. Still running with the 21 mirage +

We had an 88 v3 with 454 mag and alpha drive and boat did about 68. it was sick thats why i bought this boat. But i was upset that it's not as fast with the bravo. And mine only has 15 hours on new engine and outdrive. Pissed!!!!

I am not sure that we need stern lift. I have had my best luck with the bravo one prop which is supposedly a bow lifting prop. I tried the revolution 4 in the recommended pitch and it sucked. Even when the boat was trimmed it felt as though it wasnt. There was no bow lift at all and while yes it stopped porpoising it was because the bow was plowing instead of riding. Please let us know if you try the hydromotive 4 as I would like to hear how it performs on our hull.

VILLIAN 3 TOPEND

I HAVE A 1992 WITH A 454 BRAVO 1. I FOUND THE 55 TO 58 MPH BOATS ARE ONLY TURNING ABOUT 4200 RPM'S. IM STILL RUNNING THE STOCK 21P MIRAGE PROP BUT CHANGED FROM THE Q JET CARB TO A HOLLY 750 SPREAD BOAR. AND WENT FROM 58 TO 69 MPH AT 5000 RPM'S. ON NONMAG ENGINES A CAM CHANGE MAY BE NEEDED. TO HANDLE THE EXTRA FUEL. HOPE THIS HELPS

You got 11mph with JUST a carb change? I'm not so sure I believe that! You need like another 100HP to get 10mph in that boat. Is that 69mph by GPS or the dash speedo? The dash speedo in mine reads around 8 mph fast.

I don't want to start a pissing contest here, but my new 489 stroker is cranking 512HP @ 5400 RPM on 89 octane and 8.7:1 comp ratio with the original 7.4L Quadrajet on top (it was rebuilt and has new metering rods of course.) It flows just fine and I've got the dyno sheets to prove it. In fact we swapped in a Holley 850 on the dyno and so NO difference in peak HP other than the RPM it occured at.

Besides that, a standard 21P prop at 5000 RPM only has a THEORETICAL (no slip) top speed of 66MPH with a 1.5R outdrive. It would be kind of tough to see 69MPH with that setup.

Is it possible that someone had done some work to your 454 before you got it and just hadn't changed the carb to match the cam or heads they put on it?

Not trying to burst your bubble, but..........

Your numbers are not mathmatically possible. A 21P prop @ 5000 RPMs with 0% slip = 66 MPH.

With 10% slip, which I doubt is going to happen with that hull = 59 MPH.

Yep, I posted some in another thread here. Scroll down to see all of them.

V3 Thread

Just went out with my new prop today, hit 69.4 MPH on GPS before the wife got scared and I had to slow down. I will probably go out solo tomorrow or next week to check the WOT speed.

Also the motor looks much better now than in the pics in the thread because I installed my valve cover breathers and Gaffrig billet flame arrestor!
