Darn weather is killing the end of my season.
At least I got my new furnace installed. Saved myself $3500. I will have to buy my new snowmobile with that. :D

Rain, overcast, rain. Its warm enough to boat but the weather sucks

I had an hvac company come out and give me a quote for a new furnace (my old one wasnt very efficient and was 20 years old) And a new A-coil and ac system (my old one would never turn off it was too small). The guy came out and looked everything over figured out what I would need and then worked the numbers. I about fell off my chair.

80% furnace 90,000 btu downflow with a 2-1/2 ton ac system, $5700.
93% system $6000.

I bought and installed it for $2600. Well I will install the rest of the AC system next spring and tie it in right now its sitting the the garage.

I thought the price he gave me was crazy.

3wood -
WOW I wouldn't't be able to sleep nights if I charged those rates.
American standard 92% furnace and 13 SEER AC - Your cost $4500 or there abouts. That is totally installed.
I see the town where you live - where is it - near detroit?

Humm, down here in central Texas, where AC's get a workout every year, we had two A/C units replaced last year.

Both new ones are American Standard.

One was a 1.5 ton unit rated sold to me as a 12 Seer (says 13 Seer on the sticker), and one 2.5 ton unit same 13 Seer sticker.

Cost me $5k total installed and they had to redo the intake for both units.

But I can tell you that I have probably saved 1/4 of that cost this year alone on electric bills!!

Old hot summer electric bills averaged $300+ and now, they are around $160!!!

And since the heat part is propane, we can go almost twice as long between fillups! It's really amazing.

My old units were 20 years old, and never shut off in the summer, even when new. I 'think' they were rated at 10 Seer, but I can't imagine they were, as they never shut off in the summer, over about 95 out...

That job would have cost you about $4000 up here in Grand Rapids.
Tinkerer:
Well, I sure wish you lived down here then!!

The $5k was a whole lot cheaper than the next guy.

I think that people charge what they can, when they can. I had no idea then what it would cost, so shopped around. These folks had the cheapest price that I could find, with references, so I went with them...

You could get rich down here, if you can work at those prices!! Believe me, word travels fast! The guys who redid mine have been REALLY busy! Yeah, I put a good word in for them, and have sent a lot of work their way...

Take care,
Kent

Holy Crap, can anyone evem boat on the lake at those levels? How do you make up a 40' drought? That Sux

Did you find anything you lost on the bottom?
Well, I live in the Bee Creek cove, and most of the launches are not useable near here, but the main lake has a few that still are, toward the dam.

But I will tell you that this lake is now really scary to venture out on, if you value your prop and drive!

YES, I have found LOTS of stuff that have fallen into the water over the years!!
I found so far:
1. A Snapon pair of ***** that I dropped in about 10 years ago!
2. Two old pair of expensive sunglasses that fell in over the years (yet to be determined if the slime can ever be cleaned!).
3. Old lift motor that I tossed over the side of the dock, when I was pizzed that it went bad!
4. Old understructure of my old dock that I cut off 10 years ago, half buried in the sludge...
5. Two chairs that blew off our dock about 5 years ago.
6. The gas cap from my old 1985 Wellcraft boat!! Useless now, but here it is!!!
7. Old prop wrench.
8. Old 19p aluminum prop that I dropped in the lake many moons ago.
9. Plastic prop hub, prop nuts, prop washers, prop spacers, etc., dropped over time when swapping props on the dock!!

10. Hundreds of fresh water clams, torn open and eaten by Racoons lately. Some have fresh water pearls in them! My daughter is is heaven!! We go down there now and search for them when we can. (I have never really seen how pearls happen. It's pretty amazing.)

There is likely way more stuff down there, under the muck.

Take care,
Kent
