Putting an EFI motor in your boat is going to require a lot of wiring changes to handle EFI specific things, such as the computer and the fuel pump etc etc. Its not a big deal to do, but its far from a "drop in"
If the motor is "complete" it should have all the wiring done all the way to the "fat" harness plug. The harness coming from the dash plugs into this plug. That's were the difference may be. The pinouts may not be the same. You can cross reference the part numbers to find out.
A pigtail adapter is available from mercruiser to adapt your existing harness to the plug on the efi drop in if its a dovetail installation. When I did mine, I thought that the couple extra dollars warrented a complete new harness to the guage panel to keep things neat.
