getting 40 cents off per gallon on gas

I've been getting my gas for 40 cents less per gallon than the rest of you for the last few weeks.

I found a secret and it works.

I slowed down my driving from 65 mph each day on the highway to 60 mph and I've been saving 19% on my weekly fuel bills.

I had been spending right about $69 dollars every week and now I spend $56 for the exact same mileage and it's all due to just slowing down. So what if it takes me 5 minutes longer to get to work and back home each day.

I drive 40 miles each way and I'll save $638 per year driving 60 mph instead of 65 mph.

And the best part is that I know I can save even more. This weekend I'll check the tire pressure and have the oil changed (it's filthy) and I'll get the car tuned up next week too, so I fully expect to save .50 to .60 cents per gallon compared to what I used to spend.

If everyone in the country started driving a little slower, we'd reduce our fuel consumption and drive down the cost of fuel and reduce our dependence on oil imports and make America more independent!

If you're with me - sign this petition below!

I slowed down from 70 mph to 60-65 and the mileage went from 16-17 to 19-21.

Its the city driving that is hard for me to keep the mileage up in.

GREAT - SIGN THE PLEDGE PLEASE!
I agree, driving slower saves fuel.

However I refuse to encourage petitions like that. Something like that will get legislators to go and reduce speed limits again.

I just can't drive 55!

It needs to be a choice.

Frankly a better way to reduce fuel costs, reduce our insurance premiums, and reduce traffic would be to actually make getting your drivers license a real test.

Right now it is a joke, there is hardly any training required. Most DMV's have you drive around the parking lot, show you can parallel park and your off ready to drive.
Doesnt do me any good sinde all i do is 11 miles of stop and go traffic and never get to go above 45mph :( but i will say i have been cruising on the highway at 60mph as of late and useing the cruise controll every time! Watching the instant mpg gauge show from 18/19mpg to 24-26mpg on cruise makes a difference! :D
I don't really see that pledge or petition doing any good. Where is the one about drilling for the oil we have here in our own country? We all signed that right? What'd it do for us?
I parked my diesel truck (14mpg) and bought a used Honda Accord 4cyl/5 spd. I now get 32 MPG.
Plus I too slowed down from 70 to about 55 - 60. My fuel expenses have been cut by about 75%.

Now I have to figure out how to make the boat get more mpg.
Well this is kinda funny. Jeff your going to save over $600.00 a year on fuel for your car right? Thats great, good on you ! How much do you burn in your boat?? I'll bet you can't even fill that big girl $600.00 !

I guess what I'm getting at is it doesn't make sense (to me) to drive slower on the road all week long, and then run our boats the way we do on the weekend and burn WAY more than we saved.

But I guess a savings is a savings no matter how you look at it. Just seems funny thats all.
Here's another way to look at it.......

So you are saving $14 per week, but you are wasting roughly an hour of your time per week driving slower (you say 10 minutes per day times 5). So you are loosing an hour of your free time for $14 ? Now if you only made $10 per hour I can see where this is benificial ;)
I drive 1.2 miles to work. I can not change my driving habits to improve my mileage. 12 mpg is the best I get. That includes one round trip to the bay a week. My next option is to buy a bicycle and hope I make it through the bad part of town!

not much - because there's a lot more that has to happen that us just signing a petition.

when it comes to driving a little slower each day - this is soemthing we can all do now and he results are immediately measureable - right in your wallet.

my yearly savings equal 3 to 4 weekends on the boat and that's just fine with me.

I don't get paid my the hour. I have a salaried position.

hey - it's your money you're wasting... do what you want.

I suggest you drive 100 mph to work to give your position some more merit.

that way - all we have to do is drive faster and we can all make more mony and solve our economic problems.

It's working for me... I catch up to everyone who blows by on the highway at the stoplights and I laugh at them.
:laugher: :laugher: :laugher: :laugher: :laugher: :laugher: I see them weaving in and out of traffic, riding on peoples bumpers and jamming on their brakes to stop - fools.

I did the same - parked my truck over a year ago and it only gets used on the weekend to tow the boat. I bought a used Checy Tracker off Ebay and that's my daily driver.... Gizzi's the same way - I see him in his little beater on the highway in the mornings once in a while.
Petitions like that will start the ball rolling. BIG BROTHER will get the 55mph BS going. That was a bad idea then and that's why it went away! I'd sign a petetiton to tax the Sh_t out of the MULTI BILLION dollar profitting oil companies quicker!

You know, it really doesn't add much time to my commute either. It is all about knowing which lane to be in on the highway and being patient enough to allow that lane to work for you.

I roll 60-65 in the slow lane for miles, and each morning I pick out 3 or 4 people who decide they NEED to ride my *** as I pass a semi or something (I do speed up to almost 70 wen passing just to be courteous).

EACH and every morning I pass those cars I picked out when we switch to the next highway that gets all backed up. THey cruise 85-90 in the fast lane until it all backs up, meanwhile I pass them while putting along at 40-50 mph in the slow lane. They then pass me about 10 miles short of my office....which in essence means they beat me to work by a minute or two.

I honestly lose at most 10 minutes per day IF that.
Just like most refuse to give up their huge pickem-ups and behemoth SUVs I seriously doubt most will slow down. SO far I have seen no less rolling battletank 4x4s and SUVs on the highway nor have I seen anyone driving slower.
Yes,they may not be selling new ones but I personally know more than a few guys who refuse to give up driving their 7000lb battlecruisers.
Americans are spoiled and arrogant by nature,it will take $10 a gallon gas before most will change their ways.

let's face it... in this economy they're stuck with their battle cruisers because there's no market for them anyway....

things won't get better unless we all band together and take action because it's apparent we cannot depend on our elected officials.

It's been a long time from when we COULD depend on our elected officials.

Since when did giving the government more tax money ever solve anything? This country has the highest corparate taxes of any developed nation. and we wonder why companies leave, maybe the government will give us all jobs that pay well. The consumers end up paying for any tax increases on products anyhow.
