anybody read the latest Hot Boat, the mag changed owners and they are trying to "clean it up" and produce a better product. It looks a lot more like Powerboat now, I kinda liked the rough around the edges style of the old HB.

The new editor(president) also went on a rant about hotboat.com, he doesnt want it to be a social networking site, he said if you want to network go to myspace. I dont think that will go over very well at HB.com.

Yeah I read all that too. I don't mind them cleaning up the mag a bit but has anyone noticed all of the typos and misinformation? It looks like it's written by a group of kids, hopefully that will improve as they sort things out. BTW I just got my new HB T-shirt and it's pretty cool. Speedwake, any info on how to subscribe to the new mag? It looks like that's where all of the knowledge went. I'm tired of the west coast boats too. The deck boats look like troop landers and I can just imagine what would happen if you stuffed one. JMO

I haven`t even thumbed through a HB mag in 2 or 3 years. Just not my cup of tea.
But speaking of typos and such, did you guys ever see the first few issues of Extreme Boats ? Talk about rough... Now it`s one of the top notch boat magazines. The photography is excellent.

I have subscribed for nearly 10 years...thinking of pulling the plug now. If I wanted Powerboat, I'd subscribe to Powerboat (probably will now). They ran some duplicate test boats from old to new owners, and are re-hashing ALOT of stuff. Not impressed. Didn't really think their new writers were worthwhile. Tyler Crokket does a great job. May miss him, but otherwise, not impressed at all. Editor may look hot, but seems to enjoy calling the old mag. smut and dogging the old owners a bit much. I bet they get more complaints about losing the hotties than they did with them. To each their own, but I ain't digging it so far. I WILL be interested to see what the old staff comes up with. Performance Boats magazine...Keep us informed Jeff!!! :D

The site has been down for a few months. ie: hotboat.com

The other started at the same time. It's pretty much the same people that where at Hotboat. :laugher: Did they think people would disappear ? :laugher: :laugher:

I agree with alot of whats already been said.... time will tell... on a selfish note.. I was shocked to see the Article about the Lake George Poker Run and all the right up about Donzis in the first page or so.... and to my surprise.... in a small center shot...my little Teal 22 was caught next to the Big Dogs... playin in da Lake.

That was kinda cool.... :p: But we'll have to see what comes.... I have noticed alot of the Diction and Editorial comments were very "Sophomoric" in nature... not like other publications.

Hmmmm?

you guys actually read the articles
:D ;) :winker: :laugher: :clown:
I'll bet you read the article that had your name in it (and Doc's boat) ;) . The author seemed to think that Donzi Classics have been out of production for decades  I wonder how many of those "restored 18' and 22' Classics" were actually only a few years old :laugher: . I have a beautifully restored '05 22C :winker:

If it was the same, perfomanceboat magazine website had some spyware/virus's attached to some of the photos on the site, be careful

edit to add, it might have been powerboat mag, I don't remember, but was getting some not so nice pop ups when viewing some pictures there, this was several weeks ago. These popups were from the site and host, not from my machine.

the problem is with crunching all the info given for the article from Scott, myself, and Kenny that the info gets messed up that was more a refererence to the Donzi Classic club not really the boats at the run and specifically was about Scott's 68 barrelback and Richard Weavers 67 14 and 68 benchseat and the stuff they have for restorations but it got mixed up

and you can take a brand new classic off the show room floor and it can't hold a candle to Pearson's restored
68 barrelback that is the nicest classic on the planet
I bitch when i have to dock next to him that boat makes nice boats look like a beat up runabout luckily kenny's cig is a close second so that's why those to boats were dead center right by the main public passage thru the boats they were a big public draw

but if you really think about it
the classics in attendance
1968 barrelback out of production since 68
1968 st tropez out of production since mid 70's
1988 testarosa out of production since 88
1972 20 cig out of production since 2006
then the 3 newer 22 classics
so 50% of the classics there were out of production

the same thing happened with the article on the cult following of the 16 in the other magazine
i gave that writer an education on the 16 over a 2 hour conversation on the 16, the donzi mystique the nationwide gatherings and he mis-quoted me left and right
but hey it is a boating mag not us and world news report :)

i have a better shot some where i'll post latter

I thought the Jan. issue of HOT BOAT was much improved over the older version in terms of appearance and design. Was interested to read about the internal politics--guess we'll see how that shakes out. The articles were pretty good, but comparing it to the most recent issue of Powerboat, I couldn't help but notice the huge overlap of content. Both had articles about the IMCO/Duramax diesel set-up...a lot of the same boats test featured...of course much of this stuff is inevitable, but I doubt that both publications can continue to cover the same territory for a long time. :eek3:

Also--the Jan. issue read like Havasu Hot Boat, with at least 3 separate articles on manufacturer shoot-outs and meet-ups from there. I know it's their backyard, but it was a little over the top. What was touted on the cover as a swimsuit section turned out to be one photo of three [admittedly hot] bikini babes. I know it will take a while to get things sorted out, so I look forward to seeing what they come up with as time goes on.

Personally, rather than reviews of new big $$ boats, I'd love to see more how-to and hands-on articles, restorations, owner-customized boats, etc. Hot Boat has always seemed to be pretty good at covering that stuff in the past, and Powerboat doesn't seem to get into that much. That said, expensive new boats are great eye candy, and they offer great ideas for customizing/updating older boats. :beers:

I haven't seen any of the other magazines out there, like Extreme Boats. What's that like? And what about Performance Boats...the offspring/true heir/by-product of HB? I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this.

Seems I've got subscriptions to all available mags.

I've gotten HB for as far back as i could remember. Actually their forum was the very first I used back when, and discovered OSO for instance on there, then this one after that.

I think they (magazne) were in need of not being so much west-coast oriented in terms of their boat and location coverage. Not a lot of offshore stuff really, but a great motorhead mag. Chicks were always a treat though.... :lick:

i like the new hot boat, wish they did'nt want to clean it up though, liked the chicks in skimpy SH*^, but the photos and pages are alot cleaner looking, i am also one of theose guys that saves every magazine he has ever got and the thicker covers like hot boat will keep much longer. I can however see how someone earlyer posted that they liked the "gritteness" of the old hot boat. time will tell though
