I would like to see a corilation between hours worked and ability to get on the water. I'm in a partnership. Recently my partner aquired a new venture and has asked (begged) if I wanted to take on a little more load while he works at his new place. Currently I work about 40-50 hours a wk. but due to my biz (restaurant /7days) it can often be trying to get on the water. If I take the offer I will be working another 12 per wk (full day). Of course this would come with a significant pay increase :) . I just hope I can still go out for a nice day on the water  .
My new schedule goes like this:
Mon. 10 am - 10 pm
Tues 10 - 10pm
Wed. OFF
Thurs 10 - 10pm
Fri 4 - 10pm
Sat 10am-4pm
Sun 4 - 12
Hope it works out. I like the $$$$ but also like to Boat. Oh yeah I should mention I have two kids under 6. :confused1

I am a former work-a-holic not by choice but by necessity and a job that demanded a lot of overtime and on call time. About three years ago I was offered a job at another company which stressed time off as a priority. Now I can't believe what I was missing out on always working and being on call.

I still am on call about every 8th weekend and about two weekdays a month and still have some o.t.

The fact you mentioned the kids tells me you miss them already. Try to spend as much time with them now. Sometimes I regret not being around much back then.

I work 40 hours. 9-5. Sometimes 45 hours. For the guys who said they work 80 hours a week, thats more than 11 hours a day, 7 days a week. How do you do it? I mean, when do you Go grocery shopping, cut the lawn, take the kids to soccer, etc. when do you even take your boat out? After dark for two hours? Pretty soon Ill be working 50 hours a week, and im dreading that.

70-90 hours a week. I work 40 hours a week daytime mon thru fri plus 1 hour drive time 6:30 am to 3 pm,then I run my transmission shop depending on how much work comes in from 4pm to as late as 2am normally mon thru thurs but if busy fri,sat and sunday. Being I run business from home 2nd shift I am in house for 2-4 hours during my working time while eating, returning phone calls and GOING ON BOATING INTERNET SITES!

2 many!! and you wonder why I drink!!
2 hours too many? or Too many :D

If it´s the latter I wonder where you get time for that.

I work between 50-70 all year around.
A normal worker around here works like 40 hrs a day has one month of summer vacation paid plus vacationpay, plus a paid week off in the winter.

And yes I know Americans work more but get also more paid.
How much you have for buying power I haven´t compared.
Seems/feels quite equal IMO.

Usually we who work more than 40 hrs a week die young...
Truck drivers around here no matter employed or operators seldom see 60.

A former restaurateur here too...calculated that within 4 yrs I did 8 yrs work of the common 40hrs a week worker.
Never looked back when I sold it.
Money was good but not THAT good...
My first born was less than a year old when I started and the youngest did born 2 yrs after so right smack in the middle of it.
Also same time started a racecar business making rollcages and tuning racecars and being a race-engineer at the races.
Howmuch do you think I was home.
And yes I feel guilty about it to this day, they are 12 and 10 now.

Being a work-a-holic is nothing to brag about.

Winter, usually zero. However, this winter I am helping a friemd in his hardware store, so 30 hours or so.

Summer, whole different ball game. Usually at least 70 per week. Now, if only I could bill all that time out! :angry1:
Farming?

Sorry to hear you can´t bill everything but thats the price for being selfemployed...

Been there done that.

Maybe you should clarify work hours. I just let an employee go because he was being paid for 40 hours a week but was late 75% of the time, caught sleeping by various people quite often and spent many hours surfing the internet.

I will admit that I spend time on the internet during the day but, I am here at 7:30 am and rarely leave before 10pm. And this time of the year, I am here most weekends as well.
So what´s your profession..your avatar brought up my interest...

Winter is definitely my busy time of the year. I work my primary job 40-45 hours a week then work at a ski shop for 10-15 hours a week to help pay for ski racing equipment. I practice on monday and thursdays nights and race on wednesday and sundays so that keeps me pretty busy. Oh yeah and I am back in school working on my MBA; 2 classes this semester. My pour girlfriend never gets to see me. Thank goodness the ski season only lasts about 8 weeks.

Damn salary gets me no O.T. ! It depends on the time of year. Spring is busy with the budget and the end of the school year and the beginning of the school year are the busiest. I would say 40 average most of the time.
Oh does lying in bed in the middle of the night thinking about work count??

Thanks for the input. I guess maybe I should have put a few more choices on, 60-70 etc. . I guess I'm fortunet to have the ability to go back to my old schedule if this doesn't work out. I'm also blessed with a 8 min. drive to work (12 min. during rush hour) and since I own the biz. my family visits and we usually eat a meal together. I try to sit down at least once per day with my wife and kids no matter where it's at.

Office is open 8:30-4:30. I'm here @ 8-8:30 and outta here by 4:30. I'm in and out all day with appts, property inspections, branch office, etc. When you run an insurance agency is always on your mind though. Just like any other owned business. Just cause the place is closed doesn't mean I'm not thinking of problems, or ways to improve the place, etc. We have 8 women employees. I spend half my time keeping the peace :laugher:

Obviously, I find plenty of time for speedwake and boating and most important, time with my kids :D
