Ever since I got my Sonic, I have been checking this section for activity. But it seems real slow. I hold my self to blame because i have not posted much in here my self. So here is goes. How many of us are there and what does every one have?

I have a refuted 1990 38SS, I just picked it up a few months ago and have only got to take it out twice so far but I love this boat. I have spent most of my time sitting in it drinking beer and making boating noises after work or crawling around all over trying to learn as much as I can before the up coming season.

Also i am in San Antonio TX are is there any one else in TX?

Hers are a few pics! :D

The engines.... full roller 468 ci BB Mark IV, 2.25 intake valves, (Other head work), single plane intakes, 1050 Dominators by Chuck Noone (flowed, etc), all forged stuff, Lightning Headers ( essentially dry pipes with internal wet mufflers by Lightning- the only set ever made!!). Water enters the exhaust about 1.5 " from the end of the pipes. These thing really cook even before the carb rework. Speed is unknown as I ran out of warm weather too soon.... I am hoping for another good day soon to get it wet again. The boat just made it into the water after 3 years of drydock.
Estimated 550hp each. 1.36 Bravo 1's, 26p Bravo 4 blades... What's that work out to @5600rpm?? :D

Great looking motors, but I would think that you would need a bigger pitched prop with that much horsepower.

I'm looking at some new non-mercury props by a company called "Propco". They are designed by an older gentleman that was a chief designer for Mercury props for 25 years. He, in my view, has a superior product that will get you on plane quicker, faster accelertion, handles better and reach top speed. I tried a set on my 31 SS recently and gained 3 mph and had faster acceleration at 35 mph and it really threw us back in the bolsters.

If you're interested, I'll get you his web site. I'm going to put a 2" spacer in my lower unit part of drives and go with either the 28" or 31" Propco props and should gain about 5-8 mph.

The reason he needs to run smaller props are because he is turning a 1.36 drive ratio. That seems about right.

I just am starting with the 26" Pitch props... to see how I like the 1.36 drives. I have a set of 28" P also. If I don't like the speed or acceleration with the 1.36's I have a set of 1.50's also to swap with. Since I never had the boat in the water & the previous owner didn't either, I really had no starting place for sure with the increased power. My Formula 312 with Procharged 454 Mag's & 1.50's can run low 80's with the 28P. I think the Sonic is going to beat that hands down!!
I am just starting with "trials" on this thing.... it will take a while to iron it all out. We will see ;) .

blown formula,

Have you ever weighed your Sonic 31? Sonic says that it weighs 7,000 lbs. without fuel/water. I weighed mine this summer with 1/2 tank of fuel and almost empty water and it came in at 8,240 lbs. so with a full tank, say around 8,500 lbs.

I do have some extras on it including, A/C refrig, electric toilet head, TV/DVD etc. Put I was surprised that it actually was that heavy.

I guess that helps explain why does so well in rough water.
