Your question might be easier to answer in a month or two. Blackberry is pretty much the standard when it comes to business devices. Apple is getting ready to release a new iphone that has much faster download speeds also new programs that allow compatibility with corporate e-mail systems. My wife carries both (personal apple and business crackberry). I think she prefers the iphone, but right now each does things the other can't. Like I said, that may change soon. How's that for not answering your question?

I think that was good info. It might pay for me to wait a month or so and see. I defiantly want to be able to read company email but also like some of the features that the I phone has.

I like the palm version because it doesn't modify or reformat my documents when I transmit plus it has all the other bells and whistles too.

My whole comapny is switching from Verizon with the Q-Moto (crackberry), to the I-Phone on AT&T

Primarily for the web access - it's incredible.

In a pinch, we can even do web-based software demos using the damned thing.

yeah thats exactly what got be thinking about the I phone. The ability to surf the net and get maps, weather, music from any location is great.

 

i need one with large screen and buttons. fat fingers and bouncing up and down in the truck. i hit the wrong buttons

 

I can't speak for the new iPhone but then again, who can speak for the new Blackberry's, or Palm Treo's for that matter. They aren't out yet so it's all specualtion. I didn't buy into the iPhone mainly because it was first generation and wasn't easily available at the time.

The new Treos are supposed to be lighter because they were a brick. The new Blackberry's are supposed to come out with a touch screen. The new iPhones are supposed to have more "cool" features but they focus more on features than functionality.

What you have to ask yourself to decide is what's more important. I used to have a Treo and used it for everything. I could eliminate my PC if necesary. But it was a brick to carry with me and the phone quality was more than just poor. It really sucked. So I went to the the Blackberry Pearl because it was so small. (and the fact that RIM was in my building) The phone quality is amazing. I love the push rather than pull email strategy. But I hate the 2 letter per key typing strategy and I really miss the touch screen. The iPhone has the touch screen but it doesn't have keys that actually feel like you're typing so you make lots of mistakes.

Sooo IMHO the new Blackberry with a touch screen is about to be released in the next few months. Wait for it.

 

I think your preference depends on whether you work or play with what ever model you are using.
I'm with GFD, push email, rather than pull, and my 8700 series is due to end up in a mug of beer again, hopefully the new Blackberry will be out by then.....

I plan on getting a Blackberry in the fall, they have a touch screen coming out then and my contract will be up on my Razor! :winker:

My main reason is Blackberry interfaces seamlessly with outlook in every way, mail, address book, schedule/calendar etc.

As for who is doing better. If market share is an indicator, I'll let you make the decision.

Research in Motion sold the most smartphones in the United States for the first quarter of 2008, more than doubling the nearest competitor's market share, an IDC report found.

The report found RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) grabbed 44.5% of the market for the first three months of 2008, up from 35.1% in the previous quarter.

Apple's iPhone came in second place with 19.2% of the market in the first quarter, a drop from 26.7% the quarter before.

big keys great for fat fingers, nice screen, fully loaded with windows mobile, great email client (I have 3 email accounts which I access), records video with sound, video zoom feature, 3 mega pixel camera and everything is easy to use, windows media player, lots of available memory expansion cards (i installed 8 gb). 3G, built in GPS, wifi, wireless lan, bluetooth, wireless modem, beaming capabilities, variable font sizes (not available on blackberrys), seamless interface with IE Exploder and MS Outlook and killer battery life. I watched 8 hours of video on a flight last week on the battery.

I love it!

 

Maybe I need to look into that phone.

I love it!

Actually the BB Pearl has everything you mentioned (in their competitive arena) and does have variable font sizes. It even has a flash for the camera. But the 2 letters per key is a pain.

I am barely right today.....

 

i support roughly 150 Blackberry devices and handful of iPhones. My thoughts....

1. Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) and the handheld ROCK!! Much, much easier to integrate into an enterprise versus the iPhone (or other smart phones for that matter). Push is the way to go.

2. The iPhone is ATT only... they may have good data network, but their voice quality leaves a lot to be desired. We use Verizon with exception of the iPhones and voice/data is exceptional.

3. Our standard Blackberry has been the 8703. It has been very good unit but now no longer sold via RIM. We are now using the Blackberry Curve for junior staff and the 8830 World Edition for senior staff. Both have full qwerty keyboards and are very user friendly. The Curve used a tighter keyboard but is still easy to use.

My vote... RIM has the market wrapped up and for good reason. You cannot go wrong with a Blackberry.

 

I think it depends on whether you want it for personal use or for the Biz. I have my Verizon BB for company email, Planner, Calender, etc. As I get more busy its certainly going to be priceless for organization. The Iphone is great for the net, GPS, pictures, entertainment, etc.

 

Agreed... but ATT's service for voice SUCKS!!

Until the exclusive agreement with ATT on iPhone is over, then it's only good for the internet and entertainment purposes.

 

I have a blackberry pearl 8130 and it seems to be fine so far.

 

My preference is the blackberry as well. Had them for years and every model I have used has been great. I know several people that are "trying" to use the Iphone for business and they have been getting more and more frustrated. If you want the Iphone I would wait a few more months and see how the new enterprise app works. They are usually a bit better than microsoft as far as their products typically work when they release them.

I am on at&t with this job. We are using the samsung blackjacks. Haven't noticed any issues with the voice service myself but quite a few of our sales directors complain about reception when they travel. Can't stand the phone - it is pretty aweful compared to the curve I was using previously. The only true positive is that we are running windows on the phones but I would still go back to the BB if given the option.
