kIND OF BAD LUCK TO DAY, OR MAYBE NOT??

took a test drive on my boat to day.
(Formula 242 SS 454 330 hp)
During the ride my water pump brooke down, I did not notice
until I saw smoke and the fact that the temperature was much
to high I turn of the engine another boat was so kind and helped me back to my port.

When the engine had cooled down I started it and let it run for 30 sec. Every thing sound ok and I could not notice that anything had broken. Of course I need to repair the water pump, maybe change to a new one. I Will think I drove with out any cooling for about 4-5 min before I noticed the smoke
and the high temperature at the meeter, and stopped the engine

What do I need to check?

Should I change the oil it was very hot?

I happy for any tip

Maybe I was actually very lucky today, it could have gone much worse, couldn't it?

Check the oil and see if there is any water in it. I had a similar experience on my small block and wound up with a cracked head.
I'd get the water flowwing right again and check for leaks and water in the oil. You might of burnt up your exahust flappers too.
When you get her back running I would put a high temp alarm on it, better safe then sorry.
Exhaust riser gaskets, exhaust flappers, rubber connector hose between the manifolds and the tips.
( check the inside of the hose - it may look normal on the outside )

Definitely check the rubber exh. hose. The inside was burned on both hoses on mine and the exh. flappers were burned too.
I would deffinitly change the oil..
What color was the smoke.??? white, blue or black.??

I would say kind of black, for sure not white or blue

I checked the oil when the engine was cold, and it has the same color and consistence, as the oil I have left in the can, after change the oil before this summer season.
I am now waiting for the repair kit for the
water pump. The plastic cover, where the hoses
connect to the pump is cracked. and of course the impeller is really gone. When everything is mounted
back I will check that everything is ok.
