Lake Norman Info

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking at the weather forcast... 80s Sunday!
I'm thinking about comming down Saturday afternoon fon an overnighter. It's about 6 1/2 hr drive south but, I got a new boat begging to get wet.

Questions.
1- I looked at Lake Norman state park's site. Says you can't park overnight at boat ramp. I'd like to sleep on the boat Saturday night. Where is a good launch ramp for a 30fter where I can leave the truck/trailer? Can I anchor out or sleep at the bar's dock like I do around here often?

2- Vinny's Raw Bar looks like a Saturday night destination. My wife is a freek for raw oysters and is an easy bribe to talk her into a last minute getaway. Other good/better places accessable by water?

3- I'd like to bring my dog. She's my baby. Around here most places w/outside seating don't mind a well behaved pooch. What will I run into down there? Where can I dock to let her run/ do her biz a few times a day?

Give me some pointers from the locals pleze!
Thanks!

Yes,
Lake Norman Motel.
Not much of a motel, 60ish.
Good food in the resturant on the water side.
It's located on Slanting Bridge Road.
By water going north, go under Slanting Bridge and turn right before the RR Bridge. Where the C is on the 2ed page of the map.

Thanks. It has all the partys listed! Lots of places listed. I wish they had a single map showing where they are on the lake.

Still not 100% we are going this weekend but looking good so far. Prolly should be getting the boat registered into my name too  Don't want any trouble w/the watercops.

We're planning a trip to Norman in the future....

We're looking for a marina where we can launch the boat, park truck and trailer and dock for the week with shore power. Bath house, pool, club house???

Any places like this on Norman lake???

CKW I sent you mail. I looked up the motel number and got 704-478-2817 it says it's "being checked for trouble" yesterday and today both. Maybe biz is kinda slow this time of year...

ECoast, I'll check it out for you while we're there and let you know next week.

Thanks again for the help all.

Peninsula yacht club has everything you're asking for, only problem is it's private.
Keep asking around, maybe someone on here is a member that can let you be their "guest" for the weekend.

Another place that use to rent wet slips for the week is http://lakenormanmarina.com
No pool or club house.

You can have alcohol on the boats.
Lake Norman is in 4 seperate counties and each county has it's own lake patrol.
These are all friendly, will not have a problem from them.

Look out for the NC Wildlife Officers.
Very agressive.

Look out around the bridges, they are all no wake zones and most of the time the bouys are missing.
The NC Wildlife hangs out at the bridges.

They need to write tickets to justify their existance.

Alot of people get pulled when they have their boats registered with the coast guard via the name on the back. Wildlife looks for state registration stickers, and when they do not see them they will stop you.

People are already complaining about the Wildlife this year.

Underdog, where do you typically boat? I live about 30 miles north of Cinci and boat some at Ceaser's Creak but mostly go over to Brookville in Indiana - much bigger lake. I have been to the river a few times, but not so much. Let me know how the trip is, sounds like fun.

Cads, My favorite pond is Buckeye Lake. It's small, shallow and dirty but has 11 bars, live bands 5 nights a week and lots of good friends. :D Plus it's only an hour drive. I go to Marrietta some on the Ohio and run down to Parkersburg WV and go to the Erie Islands some too. I expect to go to Erie more this year but it's 3hrs drivin.

I like to go to as many different places as I can. Been wanting to try Cincy. Hope to go to Madison IN if the OPA race is a go in August. Also want to try Cumberland.

Looks like the party's on!
Thanks to all who have helped us out w/this info.

We got a room for 58bucks including tax waterside at the Lake Norman Motel w/a dock. Sounds so good we're gonna stay thru Monday afternoon and leave my poor pooch at home. Should be on the water by mid-afternoon Saturday.

Thanks to all who have offered to show us around or meet for drinks. Nice to feel welcome! Looking forward to meeting some new friends!
