Lowered Bolsters Seat Bottom

NYPachanga22 and Super24(and anyone else that cares :D) I just finished lowering one seat bottom.

I used 1.25" steel square stock with an ID of 1". I decided to go with steel to keep it rigid. I cut them to 5.75" lengths, drilled a hole in one end 1" from the end another 3/4" from the end, giving me a 4" center-to-center distance. I then cut out one side of the stock(3/4" end) to allow the bolster bracket to slide in.

Finished(well, not painted) "extentions" looked like this:

Looks good. I think the brackets on my seats are one piece, L shaped (referring to pic 2). It looks like your is two seperate pieces. But, I can use the same concept.

I'll wait to see how NYpachanga's come out first! :D

GEE THANKS SUPER! You can come install my stereo then since you love it so much :laugher: Seriously though it looks really good BH, I think you will be a lot happier with that setup. You sit lower but still have the drop out functionality. I know my bolsters are a little different than yours Super so I will have to check and see what my situation looks like but it seems like it is going to work. I will keep you posted as soon as it stops snowing in Northern NY! :dead:

Actually don't have the drop out choice now cause they hit the floor. :( But if I like this set-up I don't think I will ever be standing.

I think you will like this setup better....you can always put it back pretty easy. Where do the bolsters hit when you are sitting now? I think Zuper said the sides of his bolsters hit just under his arms/armpits
Yep, a couple 7/16" wrenches and 5 minutes and I am back to normal. :D

Actually, I plan on going out and comparing the two setups back to back in some rough water to see what I like better.

The bolsters now hit just under my armpits as well.

BH,what was the purpose of doing that? :confused1
Long story, but basically I am 95% sure I do not want to stand up when driving this boat. And with the bolsters bottoms up they were at a very awkward height. So, I dropped the bottoms 4" so it is a much more "natural" position and I can still use my legs to absorb some shock. Also, it puts the actual bolster higher on my body for a more secure feeling.

I never thought I would want to drive my boat standing up but I am almost always standing now when running.

domscott,

you can adjust your angle of the seat bottom so you are at a partial stand sit angle?

or do you drop it all the way?
They are motorized bolsters so I have a tendency to run both ways depending on the conditions.
If I am flat screamin' across the water then I will lower them half way so I am in the sit/stand position and get less wind. But if I am just cruisin'in the chop then I just stand.

Well, now that I have these made I can literally swap out the extension in less than 5 minutes so I am going to try both and see what I prefer. But, like I said, I am 95% sure I will want to be sitting.

I know most prefer standing but I much prefer sitting, especially in a boat like mine that has a low cockpit height.

Plus now the bolsters come up much higher on me and give me a more secure feeling. The only way to know is to try! I'll have less than $50 into the brackets and a couple hours of work.
