You could always run dry exhaust...

I run straight through tips so that the only muffling comes from the water mixing with the exhaust. If you run on small lakes be prepared to catch a lot of flak fom the lake front dwellers and the water popos. Save the open exhaust for the open water. My unmuffled 496 HO sounds great but not everyone appreciates the sound of an unmuffled BBC.

I don't mind the sound of a nice boat, but I don't get why you would want to make it louder, draw more attention to yourself etc.

Especially if it really isn't that fast like you mentioned. All Bark No Bite

I agree with UP. I love the sound of loud pipes but they have thier time and place. Its cool when your running but I love being able to flip on my muffs at idle.

I do have switchable exhaust so when im at the dock or near shore no one should complain.

I boat mainly on the ohio river which is huge. no one on shore should have any reason to complain. I could understand if I were right on top of people but being as far away as I would be its not a problem.... If I do get close I can switch the exhaust to under the water

If you're gonna be loud you better be able to back it up....

I've got to agree that a boat/car that is louder than it is fast is just silly and obnoxious. Get that Baja running respectable numbers first and then replace the tips to help it breath. Otherwise people will not say kind things about your boat.

since mods should now be based upon stats I guess I should figure all this out....

Am I allowed to paint the boat, or should I allow the gel to chalk up really good since its not a super fast boat????

You would be surprised how far sound travels over water. Be respectful of the people who don't enjoy the sound of a screaming engine all day long. As for making it even louder...why?

When your exhaust is choking your boat to death and slowing it down get less restrictive exhaust. Until then your just making a 50 mph boat a loud 50 mph boat. Run fast and stealthy

I do agree everyone needs to be respectful....

However on the ohio I see much larger, much faster, much louder, boats running all the time. The ohio is huge and a majority of the waterfront is commercial property. I cant see my little baja pissing off anyone running down the river.

Now if I were to idle down harrods creek with engine blasting away... sure I could see that being annoying. I dont plan on doing that.

As for why... Why not. some people like the sound some people dont. Some people like loud music, some dont. Some people like flashy paint jobs some dont....

I just want a little more bang from the exhaust. Nothign crazy. im not asking for top fuel noise here

damn there are sure alot of sallys here rippin on ya bro my little baja with a 454 is loud as hell I would say it is too loud but I dont want to sound like the rest of these ****. there must be a baffle in yours.

I dont see what the fuss is if you have captins call and yo want it loud when its off

I pulled the corsas off my 7.4L and went with straight tips. I like the sound alot better, didn't pick up any speed, but I don't really care either.

I didn't mean to make you mad. If you want the boat loud and you won't bother people then by all means go for it. But since you are the one who mentioned that it wasn't very fast I would be putting some money into that 454 to get the power up first. It's your boat, do what you want to. To answer your original question: yes, the stock tips/mufflers have baffles and, yes, straight through tips will make it very loud and it will sound good to those who like that kind of thing (like me). Others may not like it.

PS: I didn't mean to snag that quote.

It's your boat do what you want. You may want to check but you may have tips with built in mufflers. If not there is really no way to make it louder unless you go with some log style headers or tube headers. This of course will give you a little extra power as well.
