Can anyone help with some height measurements? I'm about to break ground on my new garage. It's going to be 24x40 and so far I'm planning a 16x9 door. My current boat is only 7'3" but were planning on upgrading into the 29 to 32ft boat range. My question is, will 9ft be enough for a Formula, PowerQuest, Sunsation or Baja in that size range.

Thanks

Thanks for the advise so far everyone!

Face It, do you know how tall your 40 fountain is on the trailer?

We'll be heading out to a few marina's this weekend to measure like Rattlesnake suggested I guess.

I wish I could build some of those buildings you guys mentioned, wow!

With the restrictions in my subdivision, I have to be under 20 ft tall and no more than 1000 sqare feet. Also, no pole barns. I was hoping that a 16x10ft door would be enough to fit most 29-32 footers. Brother In-law has a 29 PQ Enticer and it's only 8'3" to the windshield.

Thanks To ALL!

Aussie, cool boat and garage. Nice website with pics to.

Frank812, thanks but I think the 10ft door will be it. I also am going to match the house pitch of 8/12.

Gofast32, the garage would have a 11ft ceiling if I go with a 10ft door. A Formula 336 is one of the boats we were thinking of. Is it possible to get a measurment to the windshield top from you? Also, do you this your Formula would fit in a 40ft deep garage???

Thanks everyone!

tlingen,
I just finished my garage with 9 ft. doors and still have good clearance going in with my 38' Scarab. It also depends on the trailer the boat is sitting on.If the bunks are out further the boat sits lower on the trailer.
It's kind of hard to get exact measurements from other boats, like they said ,go as high now with the door as you can to be on the safe side.Better now than too late later !!!!!! :smile1:

Price your doors also, i thought about a 9X10 on my building but it was the same money if not a bit cheaper to go with 10X10....

Also think about your door width on what you will pull in and out you don't want it too tight...

this is what i went with..

Bigger is better !!

Trust me ! DO it now !!!
Mine is 35 x 60 , 4 bays that are 15 feet wide with 12' ceilings. It is NOT big enough !!!

It was good when I had a 24' Baja . That didn't last long .... Now my 39' cat is 12 feet wide and half of it sticks outside ! Get the doors as tall and wide as you can . You might want to work on top of your boat while it's inside and you will be crawling on your stomach if you don't ! Also you need to be able to open the engine hatches while inside .

If you use role up doors , remember when they are open they take up a lot of head room !

I don't think the 336 that you asked about will fit inside a 40' garage and close the door . You will have 4-5 feet of trailer in front of it and 2-3 feet of drive behind .
Don't forget , your role up doors will not be flush to the outside . I lost another foot when I installed mine , PLUS the 3" ribbs on the inside of the doors !! So now your garage just went from 40' to 38'7" .....

My next garage will be one bay ! 20 feet wide and 90 feet deep !! That way I can back the boat and truck inside and leave it hooked up and still have room left ! ;)

They are never big enough........just realize that now. I have a 40 X 99' 10" with 14' ceiling and its not big enough. Go as high as possible its cheap to go up and even if you dont think you will have a car hoist you may want one someday. Also go with at least one tall door......say 14' or 16' tall for resale value. If you sell some day people with 5th wheel trailers and or motor homes will factor that in and you will be exposed to more possible buyers. I went away from one huge door and did a 18w X 12h for my daily drivers and a 14 x14 for the motor home someday and what not. The tall door is also nice for forklift use. I didnt go with one big door because winters are cold and I figure everytime I open and close thats a big whole. I also put a 9w X 10h roll up at the other end of the building for drive through access and ventilation. Off the door subject but remember slider windows are also good ventilation and free light. Hope this helps. :D

Thanks everyone. All your info really made be think it all out a little more. My drawings are being tweaked as we speak.

I went to the APBA offshore races this last weekend here in Milwaukee. Watch for a post in the Open Forum in the coming days. I'll upload the images and video's to a website and provide a link.
