Well friends,
The continuing saga of this baja will run keeps going and going like the energizer bunny plugged into a 220 line!
I rented the cherry picker, loaded both motors in the back of the dually, hitched up the boat and away we went to a friends shop who has a fork lift that we use to pull and put the engines back in the boat.
After we pulled motors out of back of truck
we realized that the exhaust manifold bolts were missing.
Huh, okay well we can still proceed, no problem
Then we put the flywheel on the back, then realized the bolts for the engine coupler were missing
Huh, okay trip to home depot to get some stainless hardware
well got back from Home depot who did NOT have ANY stainless hardware to be found so I bought galvanized thinking well at least it wont rust
turns out that was a disaster in disguise
they were ALUMINUM bolts coated with some cheezy galvanized coating
You cant even get steel stuff at HD
ALL ALUMINUM
well what happened easily could have been WAY worse
I broke off a bolt head putting engine coupler onto the flywheel
(better there than in the boat under load running at 4500 RPM's and sheared off everything and trashed the back of a motor)
So needless to say im going to Call Mark and BAM and get some engine coupler bolts and all new exhaust bolts up here ASAP
Problem #2, I was putting in new fittings for my new fuel lines into the fuel pumps, well I decided to thread the fitting past 2 turns and the fuel pump's bottom bowl cracked and crumbled into pieces
So now I need a fuel pump (might just get 2 of them for peace of mind)
exhaust bolts, engine coupler bolts and THEN ill be ready to drop engine #2 in the bilge
I did however get ONE in there and bolted down
I did change the one shifter cable into the transom housing , that was a little bit of a bitch but nothing we could not handle.
All in all , im frusterated but Ill get over it and get past this and get a new fuel pump in there and get everything sorted out but this does put me about a week behind schedule
Might not see memorial day on the water this year.
Im trying though guys
Jason
