Went out to test the props I had collected today.

2002 Formula 382, XR's, No boxes, 630hp and 700tq, 5/8 fuel, 2 people, fairly heavy load of gear (tools, life jackets, shore-power cords, etc all on the boat). Test runs were made from 10:30 -12:00 at near 90 degrees, humidity un-known but it was HIGH!!! We made the same set of passes with the tide but against the wind, then against the tide but with the wind......net effect, less than 1 MPH less going against the tide in every pass. All WOT passes were not held for extended periods and likely would have yielded another .5 mph and 100 rpm's if I didn't have a bridge to contend with.

28 Labbed Maximus (still has the difuser ring on though) best mid range by far.
3,200 48 mph
3,500 54.5 mph
3,800 58 mph
4,000 63 mph
WOT 80 @ 5,100

30 Bravo's (stock).....noted very little bow lift, will have props checked out???
3,200 41 mph
3,500 46.5 mph
3,800 53 mph
4,000 56.5 mph
WOT 80 @ 5,350

30 Bravo's (labbed).......plenty of bow lift, best top end.
3,200 41 mph
3,500 47 mph
3,800 53 mph
4,000 56.5 mph
WOT 82 @ 5,500 (82.4)

Had a set of 30 Maximus that had been worked down to "29's" and a set of Hydromotive P5 30's that we never bothered putting on the boat.

The stock Bravos are right out the box and may need some minor work. The test did prove that my props are F'ed up as I have to run with the throttles staggered and most of these props had my throttles sync'ed perfectly. I'm told my 30 Bravos hae been welded and have a few small cracks...My 32 Bravos are good, just not a matched set so one prop is "smaller" than the other.

Coments or suggestions? Maximus are WAY better where I'm usually at (cruising) but they are alot more money.

Talking to Ron at Merc I understand that the Maximus is the best way to deal with the foam from stepped hulls running through the prop. Looks like your tests demonstrated the same results.

They are pricey but definately the way to go.

Look at all that fun you documented :winker:
