Should I be looking at a Scarab 29 w/ twin 350's. Are they well built (1997-2000). They seem to handle rough water well, very narrow beam. It should do about 70-75 shouldnt it? Seems like I could get a nice one for around 40K. I think its a pretty small 29.

in a word these boats are AWESOME!!!!!!

a lot of guys don;t like them becayse they don;t have big blocks... well you don;t want big blocks in that length boat. they handle well, the look beautiful and they SMOKE!!!

AND THEY PUT A LOT OF LARGER MORE POWERFUL BOATS TO SHAME.

if the boat is in good shape - buy it. it is a great investment.

Good looking boat, what kind of speeds do you see w/ prochargers? Did you install them? What were you seeing before?

I have a friend that has one locally, I have never been out on it. I believe it is a 2002 w/ 496.

I need to take a ride on some of the boats that I am considering so I can narrrow it down.

I have a very conservative setup related to boost, fuel pressure, and timing. It is an 80 mph (GPS) boat. I did the install myself over last winter. Mid range is awesome and has a great cruise speed. Prior to the prochargers it ran a best of 69, most of the time it ran 66-67. I also added a very nice sterio system with custom glass enclosures of the winter so I added some weight also. Boat has all the good stuff, stainless marine exhaust, big K planes, hydraulic steering, trim in wheel, gaffrig controls, drive tie bar, eagle tripple axel trailer with 3 axel brakes, xm sterio cd changer, the list goes on....

steve - make sure you get your boat listed in our classifieds if it's not already listed there. the open forum caanot be used to "overty" list boats for sale, but since you are responding to someone's post it's ok - but we still prefer you have it listed in our classifieds...

ok?

I loved mine...it had a single 502. narrow beam but the cockpit is laid out nice so there is room to move. Ate the water for breakfast and was comfortable to be on. The platform is intefrated so it obviously 29' 5' overall, and probably more a 28 footer...

CABIN has 48" headroom I believe, and teh 2 benches were fine to sit up in.. I am 6 foot.
The v berth is long enough to sleep but headroom was just enough to roll over.. I didnt mind, the hatch was there and created a nice feeling.
The twin boats I tested gps's at 71.2 and 72.7. fresh water.
very fun boats to drive...but that damn platic vent cover next to the engibne hatch was a pain when tying up...trying not to set a fender on it.

P29s had either Bravos or Blackhawks...
I remember Powerboat Mag saying the 29 Scarab was one of few boats that worked well with the Blackhawk drive.

Jeff- There was a P29 on the upper bay a few years back... I forget what the guy's name was... He had blackhawks and 350 mags. I seem to remember the boat running 70+.

There are quite a few of them around with single 502MPIs. Not nearly anough motor...
350 Mags would be good..prochargers would be better.. ;)

You're right. Seems like a good boat for the $$. What else can you get for under 50k? Not much over 28'.... :confused1
