Looking at a scarab scs 23' with a 502 mag with around 200 hours on it 1997 model....would like to get some opinions on these boats its a white one. What are they selling for is there anything I sould pay attention to when looking the boat over?

Thanks for the help

Here's a few for sale for comparison. The first one looks like a decent deal. The second one is rediculously over priced. I don't think they were big sellers due to the layout of the boat.

Funny thing....they both claim to be a "movie boat" ???

My .02.....No cabin and not much cockpit space. The first one claims 78-80 MPH, I'd have to see it to believe it. If you boat in rough water I'd look for something else.

For example, I'd rather have something like this, less $$ and WAY more functional layout. http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/11577

Good Luck!

cool boat, definately rare, I think they might have been a poor seller simply because they were sold along side the 22 scarab but with a steeper price tag. not sure on the 78-80mph but I do believe they were hitting 70 or slighly more and even came from the factory with hydraulic steering. I personally think the layout is pretty cool and unique... sort of ahead of it's day. heck I've seen outerlimits with smaller cockpits haha. like all boats it's about priority...if speed is your priority and it outweighs all then this is a good choice, as Super 24 mentioned I'm not sure how they handled the rough stuff or if that's even important to you. it's a tough justification seeing as even used they seem to list for double what the 22 scarabs of the same year sell for. that said they do seem to hold their value purely for their rarity. as far as things to look for I'd say the same thing as any boat that's 14 years old.

Scs

Just some thoughts on th SCS I had the orange one for 3 years, definetaly an awesome boat!!! Handle the rough stuff better than the 25 baja outlaw I have right now and way quicker.. As far as the speed goes by no means an 80 mph boat.. I had the 502 wamed up a bit put headers on it and ran a 26 four blade and was seeing 76 on speedo, but 71 on gps so I am thinking without bigger power 80 is a dream... It does have single ram external hyd steering which i really miss with the new boat... If you have a family shy away from this boat a real pain in the *** as far as room is considered.. Almost impossible to get a cooler anywhere in there unless u put it in the cuddy which is also a pain in the *** to access... If you were single and out with the boys great boat everyone is forced to always sit down because of the seating arangement. The boat is very rare in orange i think t was 15 or 18 ever built white there was many more built. A couple things to look for is stress cracks around the dash as they did a shotty job of attaching the dash to the boat and wach for loose bolts in the dash I was always tightening them.. Also watch for blisters on the sides bac by the stern I had 3 that needed to be fixed and then got two more in the gel 2 yrs later I had fixed and my boat never sat in the water, always in a garage when not in use.. The boat was a blast to drive and was sharp on the water the orange really woreon me fast its not a real bright orange more of a pumpkin orange... If you have any questions or concerns pm me and we can talk..

SCS stress cracks

Hey everyone, I am looking at buying a 97 white 502 SCS. since I have found this boat I couldn't imagine not owning one no matter how unpractical it is. However, the one I am currently looking at has major stress cracks all around the cockpit. Do all SCS boats develop stress cracks around the cockpit area or is this a sign of the boat being badly abused? I've seen alot of stress cracks in my day but these are the worst ones I have ever seen...

scarab

Not sure if this is common but pic 1,3,4 is the same places I had stress cracks also around the corners by the windshield. I would also look closely for blisters in the gel and seperation in the engine bay walls port and starboard.. I had all of the above on my boat I did get the blisters redone though. Not to sure what is the deal with the stress cracks. I loved my boat but did not seem to be built all that well imho.

ya after thinking about it the last few days I am going to hold off and wait for a SCS that is in better condition. I have been having a hard time finding these boats for sale does anyone know of a clean one for sale or even a good place to look for one? Thanks again for the help!

scs

There was one for sale down in Florida at one time and in Massachusetes at one time.. I know they are far and few between but a google search of scarab scs might bring something up. I think holding off is a good idea you will never be happy worrying about all the cracks and a boat in half descent shape anyhow

Just purchased my Scs 23 only had her in the water once and that was for the test drive! She did well in the adverse conditions air temp -2 degrees celcius with 20 mph winds on the Okanagan lake in Kelowna BC. Will likely be more enjoyable with warmer weather. They say she is a 310 hp 454, I pushed her to 50mph with three adults and backed down as icicles were forming on my nose. She is a very low hour boat. Her last owner kept her in top notch shape.

These boats are way cooler than a 22'... as I had one of those... I would guess, 72mph tops... Perhaps the speedo is wrong (more like it). If you are shopping hard, recommend a 29ft scarab... They are not much more than the SCS. or if you can find it.... P29 with blackhawks!!

I used to have a 1996 22 Scarab. It was a fun boat. Had a 502 MPI. Ran low 70's GPS. Best of 74. They are really a 2 person boat. Not much room in the back seat and hard to get on plane with people in the back seat. Good for river running or about 1-2 ft chop. They look cool and I had a blast with it.

The graphics on mine were called the "Shattered Graphics" I did some customizing. I took the stereo out of the passenger side and moved it to the drivers side. Then cut the hole bigger and had a custom glove box made by a plastic shop. Then painted the dash to match the graphics on the boat. Also made a dash pad with the Scarab logo. I took out the stock front bucket seats and bought new seats from the factory, that came in the 1998 22 Scarab's. They had a higher back rest and looked and felt much better. Put in a pounding stereo and all was great. I tested more props than I can remember. I ran a labbed 25 pitch Mirage Plus prop and that was fastest. Here's a picture of the dash that took a lot of work, but made the boat. I got compliments everywhere I went.
