Snack Attack takes First Win in National & World Champion Raceboat
Powerboat Race Team adds Wellesly Inns of Deerfield for this Weekend’s Race Event

7/11/02 - Fort Lauderdale, FL - It’s one thing for fans to see a million-dollar raceboat competing in speeds in excess of 170+ miles per hour, it’s an entirely different issue to own one. Not only will these World and National Championship raceboats impress the thousands of fans that will line the beaches off Deerfield Beach this weekend, just to get a glimpse of them, but the fact is, it is just as impressive to those who race and maintain them. Grasping the opportunity to own one such raceboat is a dream come true for Trinidadians, Nicholas "Tico" Lok Jack and Joe Pires.

In May 2002, the two purchased the National and World Champion raceboat, Planetman, and they are taking its reputation seriously. The team premiered their boat under the name Team Snack Attack Offshore Superboat Racing at the Superboat International Race in Ft. Myers, Florida, where they placed 4th, their first time out this season. In Sarasota last weekend, the team claimed their First Victory.

Lok Jack and Pires are no strangers to winning. In 2002, they claimed the title of 2002 Superboat Limited National Champion in Snack Attack, a 35' Jaguar, the first time that a boat from the Caribbean has achieved such a feat. This new venture will allow them to move up to the largest and fastest fleet in the Super Boat International Racing Circuit.

"It’s a dream come true, to be able to race in such a well known boat such as Planetman. It’s probably the best setup 46’ Skater in the world and we are looking forward to taking our first Championship and follow the claim to fame that Planetman has had in the past. We are even more excited about bringing our sponsor, the Wellesley Inn of Deerfield/Boca Raton with us along the way," said Lok Jack, who adds that the staff at the Wellesley will also become official team members this weekend. The Wellesley is offering a special Team Snack Attack rate at their property of only $52.00 per night, so fans and friends can come cheer the team on during the Deerfield Race Event weekend, July 12th - 14th, 2002. The Wellesley Inn is located at I00 SW 12th Avenue, I-95, Exit 37 West, and the rate is available by calling 954-428-0661.

Team Snack Attack Offshore Super Boat Racing consists of Lok Jack, Driver and Pires, Throttleman of the 46' Douglas Marine, 4 man canopy Skater. The boat is equipped with twin Sterling Performance 1250hp supercharged engines, boasting speeds in excess of 170 miles per hour, a speed they hope to reach in the Sunday Competition as part of the Fountain Powerboats Super Boat International Deerfield Beach Offshore Gran Prix. Rounding out the team is Crew Chief, Grant "Cricket" Bruggemann, of Brisbane, Australia and Technical Support Director, Roger Bell, also from Port O’ Spain. Doller Offshore Marine of Fort Lauderdale is the official rigging company for the 2002 season.

Race weekend activities include a weekend long Festival on the Beach, with the Racer Pit Areas located at the Cove at Hillsboro Boulevard, at the Intracoastal Waterway. The Races will be held on Sunday with competitions at 11:00am and 1:00pm. Race Vieiwing and the Pit Areas are Free to the General Public. "We look forward to competing against some of the biggest, fastest boats in the world this weekend and being right there with them at the finish line, " said Pires, who encourages fans to stop by and meet the team in person over race weekend in the Racer Pit Area at the Cove.
