Im curious, at what point is the country considered in a recession. ?

I had a meeting last night where we discussed the top 25 accounts my company has nation wide. Together they are town roughly 10M.

Im out selling or trying to sell everyday and its tough. Sure there are plenty of companies which are still in business. However I cant count how many tell me they are slow due to the economy.

so im not saying we are or are not in a recession. Im just curious what criteria must be met before the feds agree we are in one.

Two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth.

We have not had the first negative report yet so by definition , we are not in recession.

I will say that I have met people who stay in their own private recession all of the time!

Okay that makes sence. I thought it had something to do with that but im by no means an economic guru.....
If your neighbor is out of work its a recession. If you are ut of work its a depression

Who's definition?

Take a deep breath and say........RECESSION!

You don't have to wait to hear it on Tee Wee
This morning on CBS and I quote:

"Until the housing market finds the bottom, we are in a recession"
The company I work for has had double digit growth for the past 24 quarters. As the CEO said a few months ago : "The country can be in a recession, but we will choose not to participate".

It`s all how you percieve it. If you want to be gloomy, be gloomy somewhere else.
I think things are pretty well here in Texas.
Well guys, there are a million opinions about the condition of the economy. The definition I gave is the one taught in every business college in the country and is the one the government will use to come to the conclusion we have entered into a negative growth period.

Also, just remember this. Every measurement used by economists is depicting what has happened in the past! In almost every past recession, once it has become evident by the reported numbers, we have come out of the other side of the negative growth and the recession has ended!

Who said anything gloomy?

I just said we are in a recession. I am not participating either. Or am I?

Your words!
im sure there are companies out there which are booming. Heck I just picked up some business from a company which has doubled in the past couple years. However I think that more companies than not have seen a decline in revenue....

I was just curious what the feds used to judge..

I agree.......
According to the definition, every time I jump in the cold lake I experience a bit of a personal 'recession'. (a little negative growth :winker: )

That is not negative growth, it will recover!

What you experienced is SHRINKAGE! :laugher: From an accounting point of view, the same thing as shop lifting!
Yeah, the only way I recover from my recession is when I raise my my wife's interest rate! :laugher:

Reminds me of one of the funniest episodes of "Seinfeld".

After getting out of the pool and getting caught naked by his girlfriend while changing, George Castanza asks "Women know about shrinkage, right ?" :laugher:

By the definition we are not in a recession..........

but we are deffinately heading that way.
Please replace the words "we are" with "I am" in your statement.

Not everyone has recession in their future.
Good news today.....The recession is over.

And put your pants back on!

Some people are making more money now than at any other point in their career, so not everyone is in this with you!

Just ask anyone in the repo business if they are slow!
