Stern Jack test results

I got the Stern Jack installed and put about 150 miles on my boat in the last two days...

I ruined my labbed prop a few weeks ago so right now I'm running a stock Bravo 28

With this prop I ran 81 mph at 5250 in the past...

Today I had about 1/2 a tank of gas and I think the temps were in the mid 90's or so, and it ran 81.7 at about 5350 but I was WAY over-trimmed to get there....
...so I guess it didn't really add any speed....

Now the GOOD news...

It handles like a COMPLETELY different boat.....

It gets out of the hole WAY better..
The trim has WAY more control on the boat than before..

At WFO the "chine walking" is almost non-existant..

When I was out last weekend, running in the mid 50's I had the tabs buried almost the whole time and the drive was trimmed almost all the way down, just so the boat was riding pretty much level, with the water breaking right behind the windshield. when a larger wave would come up it would still send the bow skyward...

This past weekend, the water conditions were about the same but I was able to run with a little less tab and a little more trim, I was still ending up airborn on the bigger waves but it at least it was flying "level" which I don't mind at all :winker: ...

Do you have any pics of the hydraulic steering hooked back up? What did you do for that?

I had some pieces made up to extend my steering rams for now....

Eventually I'll just get some longer rods made for my cylinders...

Basically the pieces slide over the end of my cylinders, then the end pieces that were on the cylinders bolt to my extension pieces.....

I still need to paint or powdercoat my Stern Jack.. I just wanted to make sure I liked it before I stuck a ton of $$$ in it....

I thought Land & Sea guaranteed a 10% mph increase ? I realize that you bought it as used, but ??
Now you need a shortie drive.
With the shortie you will no longer have to trim it much for top speed.
Your speed should come up because with out trimming to the moon the thrust will be pushing the boat forward and not down.

I know someone else who had a similar experience with a stern jack. His was on a Stingray.Better handling no mph improvement.
Damn, you have mufflers and donkey dongs!!
Scary to think how loud that thing would be otherwise!
:D :D
anytime you change anything in the driveline(height, setback, angle, etc) the prop needs to be maximized again. Im sure once you get the prop dialed in you will gain speed from the setback.

Did that limit your turning?

Was that the guy that got banned from here and OSO and boatfreaks and ..... ? :)

No, it didn't seem to... I mocked up the Stern Jack before I had my steering extensions made so I was able to optimize their length so I wouldn't loose any turning radius..

The Stern Jack added 8" in length and I think my extensions ended up being something like 7"...

Without the "downtubes" it was 94 db at idle even with GGB mufflers..
I don't mind loud but it was LOUD !!!!

Up on plane it still has a very distinct "bark" to it I'm told, one of these days I'd like to have someone else drive it so I can hear it go by :)

As far as prop tuning for the Stern Jack, hopefully there is still more to be had... I have to save up some $$ and get back in to labbed props again...

I had just hoped to see some speed increase with the stock prop

Also I'm sure a "shortie" would help a LOT as my drive was really deep (6 1/2" below the keel) even before the Stern Jack...

Hopefully I'll find someone that will let me try one out some day.. :winker: .

No,this guy belongs to the stingray site.I know other people who do mods on their boats. That other guy is also banned from my restaurant. :D

Once you get everything dialed in you should see a speed increase. My Dominator picked up a solid 4-5 mph after I got the right props on it. Then when I added the shorties I picked up another 4-5mph and the boat handles fantastic with the combination of the Stern Jacks and the shorties.

Working tabs help too, right Scott? LOL. I hope everything is working OK.

This weekend I get to splash my boat for the first time of the season.

Yeah, that is loud. How fast are you trying to go? Are you looking to break 100?
