My engine wont miss fire when the switch is engaged. I checked the ohms and it worked so now what? I have checked the grounds but i cant find any wires that would pertain to this.

I have a points ignition if that means anything

Are you talking about the shift interupter that momentarily kills the engine when coming out of gear?

yes
Does it have a black wire on one side and a white with a green stripe on the other. If so you have to check the black wire to ground and check for continuity.I believe it just grounds out the distributor. This is how it works on my 83, adn 86 mercruiser motors.

no 2 black wires and 2 blue wires. One of the blue wires is looped.
I am looking at all the schematics in my mercruiser manual. You should have two wires coming off the switch going to a terminal block. One of the wires at the terminal block should have resistance to ground. The other one should go to the negative terminal on your coil. You can check both by just ohming them out.One should be to ground and the other should have resistance to your - terminal on your coil.
Do you have a mercruiser or an omc?I assumed you had a mercruiser guess I should of asked this first.
omc. I have the seloc book but it is no help. The two wires bo to a black box
Sorry, my knowledge is very limited on omc's.The way I understand it is that they use two switches and a module to make this work. The spring loaded interupter switch is only used as a trigger which is sensed by the electronic shift assist module. There is also a overstroke switch which has a button on it, this is supposed to keep the shift interupter from working once it is in gear.Do you see this button on your shift mechanism? If this is jumped out it will keep the shift interupter from working because the module will never see the pulse.
Do a search for "omc cobra shift interupt" online, there is lots of stuff out there. This is a known issue with Cobras. I had a lot of problems with mine. It would work fine for a while and the start acting up.
