Wife made a decision WOOHOO

We went to the local speed marina on Saturday to poke around so I know what I can and cant look at. So we climbed on fountains, formulas to see cabins and amenities and layouts ect.
Well honestly, this blew me away
she liked the fever 38
She liked the size of the cabin, like the size of the enclosed head, the little bar/galley if you will on the left side going down

She liked the 38 Formula cabins but im not a major fan of formula and it is weird, just basically the windshield and the lines of it dont do much for me.
Their graphics I must say have come a LONG way in a short time though

Well Since im not a major fan of the fever line, I decided since we were hemming and hawing on the 38-42 range and SHE is the one that said 38 fever, that the 42 lightning is the basic same thing, sexier lines though.
(I measured the beek too, Dang that thing is like 3.5 feet!!!) The head room was adequate in the fountains as long as you did not have to get up and run, you could get around crouched over and not have a problem, the headroom while sitting is more than enough, the head in the fever was more than adequate for my wife and I am actually shocked since fountains have basically the lowest head room around.
She liked the addition of a TV in the formula cabin but that is something that can be added to any boat of just about any size so that is irrelevant anyway.

So 42 fountain - 2 ft for swim platform, minus 3.5 feet for beakcomes to about a 36-37 foot boat
So Now that I know what to look for it is going to be one of the following

42 lightning With ARCH
38-42 sonic With ARCH

Any boat I get is going to need a trailer
and I would prefer some SC's humming back there.
How do the 42 fountains run with HP500's?
Seem to see a majority of them equiped with the 500's

Early 90's
They are out there
Just have to dig and dig
Or Sonic as well, not ruling that out .
Trenton has an 89 with twin 750 sc's and #3a's on the back for 89 no trailer
I asked them to pull it down out of the racks, they cant, too much stuff in front of it
BUt I want to take a look at it,
If not that one, one will come up

YOu dont remember the cabin in that thing do you sling?
Wife wants the upgraded cabin in the thing.
ONce with the sink, enclosed head ect?
the lower cabin was just the sofa things facing each other with an anchor locker on the right nothing else and a pad v berth
Any help would be appreciated, cause that will tell me if I should even persue it or not.
89 with no trailer for an 89 is sort of high dont you think?

I think not sure it has 3a's on it
(not sure the difference between 3 and 3a either)
but you can get 3's rebuilt for like 7-8 grand each on the internet.

What is the big to do about 3's anyway?
I realize they can handle more power ect but still, Is there an advantage or parts dont wear out on 3's?
I know props are more expensive so dont ding em up!
anything else?
THanks man

the only thing I dont love about the fevers is the windshield.
Needs that lightning windshild that comes to a point.
That is the only gripe I have with that boat,
that is a personal observation is all
The 38 fever we looked at had twin 650 sc's in it but no trailer for 139 thou
Little high plus 10 grand for trailer
OUCH
cant go that high
it was a 1996
Pretty boat though, loved the white and purple interior too

Aren't you tired of working on boats yet??????

You should SERIOUSLY look at the '98 35 Lightning that Too OLD has for sale. Newer boat with STOCK reliable power that will run 85mph for 100k with trailer.

Upgrade to Whipple SC's or a bigger boat after you actually drive one and get some seat time.

Sorry to sound like a d***, but from everything you have said and done, you don't have the experience needed to drive the boats you're looking at or the resources to maintain them. Heck, you complained that you couldn't afford $200 starters for your Baja. How are you going to afford burning 40-80 gallons of fuel per hour--and thats with stock power twins.

I know I'm sounding like an a**, but what I'm really hoping for is that you think about this seriously in making your decision. I would really like to see you posting some threads titled "Had a great weekend out on the water with the wife" and "Boat ran perfect as usual"

Its not the money, just I saw the expense or investment being way more than what the thing is worth
If it was a 2000 apache, yeah then I would do what it takes to get the stuff done.
But at one point I had literally just shovels full of loot going out the door in every direction and getting back broken bull$hit and crap in return coming in, motors with no oil pressure, valves stuck, backfiring out the carbs, no power ect.
It was a frusteration
And Yes I have driven larger boats than I have now
Hell I was a marine mechanic for a while
Ask any of my friends, I can drive my *** off and dock as well if not better.
But anytime you jump up in size, it is always something new.
someone that has a 16 ft and jumped to a 28 you going to tell them the same thing?
im 30 ft now
granted I have about 3-4 hrs seat time in this thing which in average seasons is not alot.
but still does not change the fact that anytime you get a new boat you need to spend some time with it to feel comfortable. Anyone on this board will tell you that.
No im not tired of working on them either, I love to do it but as listed in the other post, people like to do stuff when they want to play, this is the I HAVE TO DO THIS STUFF type of thing which makes it more aggervating when you find out on a friday night after Mercruiser parts.com is closed and or doller offshore is closed you need something like riser bolts or whatever and you just blew another weekend cause something else went wrong.
I have the means to take care of these things but when you are installing a fuel pump and it crumbles in your hand, or when you go to change your oil and you find yoohoo in there, (how this whole thing started)
I decided to do BOTH, one motor was just fine, but I decided to do both
I was doing it right
not half a$$ed like some people that might just get one engine redone and the second one has 450 hrs on it
I complained that too much money was going out too fast and I was getting back crap (engines the first time with no oil pressure)

Let me as you something

If you paid for 2 engines to be redone and only NEEDED to do one, and they came back BOTH with no oil pressure, missing, popping out the carbs ect
How would you feel?
What would you do?
Sorry im defensive but hell man, just slash me with a knife why dont you?
We ALL had to learn boating at some point, so I have never OWNED a 41 apache or 42 fountain
So what?
and to boot even though it was a bay liner and a stephens drag boat that I have owned in my day I have about 18 years experience driving boats and that is not counting anything like friends boats or customers boats at the marina
