One of the only places I will boat is the Mississippi River. Been a river rat from birth.

The River is so unique that it never gets boring, plently of other boaters, places to stop and the scenery is just the best. We hang with the gang near Alma and have boated with the guys down South as well.

Generally speaking the river North of LaCrosse WI up to the Twin Cities and Stillwater is some of the best around. Plenty of sand bars etc.

Where is Guttenburg and Lansing, IA? I grew up up the Miss. in the Quad Cities (Rock Island) and go back about twice a year. This summer me and EZ Camper #2 are gonna pull the Sea Doos up and take them out and hit some wakes!

I do not know about Lansing, but I believe Guttenburg is between Dubuque and Clintion. Watch out for jumping wakes in the Quad Cities, the DNR is FINALLY cracking the whip on that...

edit: Guttenburg is about 45 minutes to an hour north of Dubuque by car. Lansing is almost up to the tri-sate area of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa

what kind of average depths do you see in the channels there?

Reaaly depends on the pool. One that I spend time in is around 10-12 feet in the channel, the other is around 25 feet in the chanel.

Guttenburg is at lock 10, which is actually between Dubuque and Prarie Du Chein/ Mcgregor Ia.
Neat little river town with a nice downtown area and public courtesy docks on the south side (downstream) of the lock. Good resturant with big veiws where you can watch the locking goins on while eating...
