Took the water pump out again. Was told by a guy that if you had grooves inside the impeller housing I needed a new pump. So here are a few pics and trying to see what you all think. The inside walls of the impeller are good no grooves, its the bottom piece that the impeller sits on that is grooved, not sure if its suppose to be that way, so I'm looking for your thoughts on this matter. First pic of grooves on bottom

Vandy, the shaft on your pump looks perfectly round in the photo's. What does it have to lock the impeller to it? It there a flat spot that I can't see, or a keyway? Same goes for the impeller, is it the same configuration as the shaft?

Those grooves are pretty bad. Can that wear plate be replaced or do you have to get a new pump housing?

AAHHH I see what you are saying makes sense. The pin the impeller sits on is not round it looks like that in the pic. Also it looks like that housing is all one piece, so it looks like I will be spending 250 bucks for a new pump.

I wonder if you can get a bracket for it and put the regular bravo style rebuildable pump on there. Just like the one in the picture Noise Pollution posted. That way when you get a impeller kit it has a new housing, wear plate, o-rings and impeller. Might be worth your while if you plan on keeping the boat for a while.

The pump housing is fried.. I would think the other half of the assembly must have grooves too.. This is what usually happens when a pump runs dry..

Really not surprised,
That's why I said to check the pump in (#1 ) on the list..

To bad it does'nt have replaceable wear plates, so you have to get a new pump..as you already know.
If you can get a new one for $250 , I'd do that.. I just would'nt bother converting to the old style, but that's your call

So once you get the pump, don't forget, you still have to confirm you don't have an obstruction in your drive/pick-up, I just don't want to see you fry a new pump.. :winker:

Question,

If I tape of all my water intake holes on my sterndrive, and put a shop vac on the water intake hose on the inside of the engine compartment to try and suck out anything that might be blocking the water flow to the seawater pump would that hurt anything?
