wondering how fast a single HP500 29' baja would run

I love the 29 Outlaw.... and I did a lot homework before buying my boat...

From what I gathered... a single HP500 was getting close to the same speeds of a T-310 setup (weight vs horsepower(mid 60's?))

The 29 Outlaw dwarfs a 28 Sunsation. (put'em side by side)

Huge cabin... large cockpit... small engine room! (twins, important if you do your own maintenance)

I know what you are thinking... there are some killer deals on single HP500 29's out there...

Insurance?... price it... it may not be that much cheaper than twins (agreed value, blah, blah, blah)

The re-sale???

How fast do you want to go?? :D

I had a '98 29 Outlaw with twin 454 mag mpi's (385hp ea.). I can't imagine owning one with a single. It's a true 29' boat and I think that you would be very disappointed, even with the 500hp. Look for one with twins, even if it's got 310 hp's, you will be MUCH happier in the long run. Insurance wasn't too bad.

Tim G,
Your boat can't run that fast, you can't seem to keep it in that flat water. LOL! Just messin' with ya. Nice pic.

The 28 Pantera never struck me as having much cabin space, but I've never been IN one, just seen them on the water.

I too looked at 29 Outlaws, but bought a 25' 32 Fever instead.

Mark, you just may be the only Fountain owner with a sense of humor!!!!
For that you get another GOLD chain!!!
Just kiddin you know
:laugher: :laugher: I love the gold chain shots :laugher: :laugher: .

I also agree Mark, great sense of humor bud.

Back to the topic, The Baja is bigger than the Sunsation, but what do you want in this boat? If speed is a factor and you are set on only one engine, Sunsation's the way to go. But if you rather more room inside and out, and a slower boat (again with a single) than the Baja over the Sunsation. Keep in mind aswell, no one has mentioned this, but 500hp in front of a bravo pushing a heavy 29 Baja, will work the drive harder, than a Baja with twin Bravos.

I've got a 1999 29 with 454 Mags.It runs low to mid 70's.I love the boat. :) I have State Farm insurance and pay $560 a year.I was paying almost $400 a year for my 96 24 Outlaw. So I don't think insurance should hold you back, unless you have other insurance issues. And CJ brings up a good point. There will be major strain on that drive trying to get that thing on plane with a single. :devious:

Topdj,

How are you? You know my boat and it is a low to mid seventies boat, but that is with the twin 496's. CJ brings up a good point about the strain on one Bravo trying to get that much weight up on plane. It could eventually take it toll on it. The maintenance of twins is not that bad for what gains you get. I am with statefarm and the price was only a few hundred dollars more than my 272. I think you would be disappointed with a single. Just my opinion.

Evil , Hi I didn't get up to the GLH get togethers.
did'nt want to get my *** kicked, seeing my boat has a top speed of 55, I would have been in the back of the pack :D. Have you had any problems like stress cracks or electrical? I do like the size and freeboard of the Baja and they are priced right for what you get.
true 29 feet, vs fountain, sunsation

Im happy to hear that the insurance is reasonable

My other chioce is Chris Martin www.sterndrivespec.com
was going to hook me up with a Hp500 in my boat
not cheap but will solve the speed problem. That would put me in the High 70's. But with a stepped hull
it may be a handfull

10-4 on the single drive thing..
A freind of mine has a 26 Sonic... He went through two Bravos in one season...
Then he invested in an XR drive.... So make sure that B29 with the HP500 has a good drive...

The Baja has a "roomier" cabin than my boat. The Pantera cabin is long, but the headroom just isn't there.

The bulbous shape of the B29 is where they get their cabin room.
You'll want to look at a Sonic if your wife demands a cabin... They do a great job on the cabin, and they don't use a glass windshield.
The 31 Sonic is a great boat. I looked at one with AC, Micro, enclosed head, shore power, 454 Magnums. It was a 64/66 mph boat. I low balled the guy..thus missing out on that boat...

Don't let the dealer locatins stop you from looking around. You can usually buy right from manufacturers. A dealer is a nice thing to have, but all you'll really need to look for is authorized Merc service for your engine warranty.
You should come down to Ft.Lauderdale for the boat show the 30th....

Waterboy- Grow up? I don't know what your issue is here... All I try to do is steer another FB member into a good purchase, that he'll be happy with. Was it because I called the 310 package a DOG??

Right you are.. The Sonics need power...

That Senza looks pretty cool. I'd say put an engine in it if you are happy witht he boat, and if you think the hull is good for more power.
Harry Shoell designed that hull...if I remember right. i'd expect the boat to run pretty good with 470 prop HPs.
HP 500s are pretty $$$. You may be able to do a nice carb engine for 10k...

You should get Evil Twin on the phone. He has a 29 Outlaw with twins..... Go straight to a guy that owns one...
