The Uncle of one of my friends is about to purchase a 42` Outerlimits with a pair of 1200 Sterlings. We were just curious as to what kind of speed this boat would do. Sorry, I don`t have much info, I don`t even know where he is buying it from. I haven`t had the chance to talk to him yet. He will be selling his Top Gun, it had HP500`s. I think he will be seeing a LOT more speed with the OL.!!!

Keep in mind that any boat will have a best top speed that may be obtained only when in an unusual configuration. For example, tall props, drives rotating in, ballast somewhere in the hull.

When you spend that kind of money, lots of people will "dial in" the boat just to see how fast they can get it. Most of the time, you won't want to ride very long with the boat setup like that.

I would have to say that the 42' Legacy would probably run nice all day long around 110 -115 with the correct engines/props. Oh yeah....and also, if you can afford the gas. :D

If you can afford this type of boat, Gas affordability is not a concern

the boat i mentioned was a GTX. id guess a Legacy w/ 1200 Sterlings s/b able to run over 115 on any given day. maybe 120 on its best.
The 42 Legacy I was in was doing some serious dancing on her props to get 120. But at 110 she was stable as a rock, and even at 115, still not bad. After the owner and I did some more runs, we ran back to the dealership at between 90-100, and the boat felt like it was crawling.
