Hey if Im going to do it, im going to do it right. Dont want the BS that everyone else has of 3foot-itis

Just make the jump, and be done with all the crazy buying, selling 3-4 years later, then another 3-4 years do it again ect.
Just do it once and get it over with and done.

I met a guy once during the spring break poker run with triple 502's in a 43 Black thunder, and another guy with triple 454's in a 42 Fountain. Both of them had over 400 hours, and never replaced a drive. I thought that was worth mentioning.

I know they are alot more maintenance, but they live alot longer than twins.

less stress on 3 as compared to 2, burn less fuel overall than twins at same speed cause engines might be turning 2800 going 35-40 mph in triples compared to twins turning 3700 -3800 doing 35-40 mph for the stress factor.
in some cases less is not always better. I am still leaning towards the twins though for the resale factor, the triples are tough to sell for people think that the twins are less expensive to run, maintain ect.
I think it closely comes out as a wash.
Might rebuild 3 drives once every 10 years as compared to rebuilding 2 drives every 6-7 for wear and tear is more extreme on twins in this size range.

Like I said it sort of washes out for the most part.

I vote for the triples. You want to do it right the first time... and not regret it later wishing for more power. You only need to run that third engine when you need it... not idling around the docks or no wake zones.

45 too big 35 too small
Im settling on the 42.
The 38's are all too expensive since that is the one that seems to hold its value the best.
Buy one, run it for 10 years and loose about 50 grand off of what you paid for it.
Sounds great if you can buy one new, but I cant afford one used.
Rick, find more 42's bro!
Call you later

God damn it, this is pissing me off.
Why in the hell would you post an ad on boat trader and NOT REPLY to people asking and inquiring about a boat?
WTF??
I was hoping to be on the water by the 4th of july if at all possible.
Trying to get this dope with the triples to call me, contact me, hell maybe I need to send a defribulator up there and zap him in the chest to see if his heart is beating or not.
Aggervating!!!

5 phone calls, 3 emails and NOTHING!!!

I swear, DONT put up an ad if you are not going to answer the phone or your email, just give the damn listing to a broker that will answer the phone if your too lazy to pick it up yourself.
Damn it!

Dude, the 42 with the 502's is gonna be a slug. Another thing to keep in mind if you ever do decide to sell it, it will be damn hard to do with the underpowered engines.

Who told you the trips burn about the same as twins? I find that hard to believe. Any money you save on gas will be spent three times over on maintainence on them. I agree that the drives will last longer, but at what cost? I think you will find the 42 is a b!tch to trailer, store, launch, manuever, and dock. Have you test driven a 42 yet?

It's your dime, get whatever blows your dress up, but I'd seriously consider shying away from the 502 power in that ark.

Now a 358 with HP's.............mmmm, just right! :)

Cuda, Im leaning towards a 42 with HP500's but there is one that is procharged for sale with xr's on it in my range too.

Tom at sonic (well really Doller) is trying to get a hold of the guy and see whats going on.
In powerboat magazine, they listed a 45 with triple 500efi's at 85 mph. I would figure the 42 would be just a tad faster.
Guys, what maintenance, Your talking oil changes, water/fuel seperators, tweakin some carbs once in a while, plugs, cap, rotors, wires, and new MSD coils.
I dont know but to me that is not that bad. Service the drive once or twice a year and replace any hoses or belts ect that might go bad.
Now if your talking about Ohhh these heads are shot, the 3 pairs of exhaust are shot, the 3 sea water pumps are shot ect ect ect Yeah THAT WILL HURT no doubt.
Im not trying to justify the triples but 3 NA motors I dont think will sway me away from a boat BUT Im trying my best to find a twin setup with headers on it.
Found one, but the marina that it is at wont do trades so basically forget that one.
They are out there, just have to be patient and find the one that is right for me.

And Cigarette1 what does that mean dude?
Man I have the gun in my hand, the clip is loaded, there is one in the pipe the hammer is back and im ready to fire.
Dont think im prop kickin cause IM NOT.
IM DEAD FREAKIN SERIOUS AND READY TO DO THIS.

OK,

Heres another trip argument,

You buy the boat with 2-300 hours on it, so no big deal for you to have trips..........

You run it for 5 years, and now it has 800 hours on the mills

Now you want to, or need to sell it............

NOBODY is going to want to replace 3 HP 500's, or even 502' for that matter, on a 10-15 year old boat............

unless your giving it away!!!!

You may say you dont plan on racking up that kind of hours, BUT, they come quick, Tim put like 200 hours on his last year..........

without even trying!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything Cuda was saying, is what I was saying, I personally think a 35 is big enough, and very capable of the local waters, besides, who the F$%K wants to go out in a damn Hurricane, 4-6 is enough, after that, stay home!!! Heck he hangs with the big boys in just a 30 footer(when he can keep it running :laugher: :laugher: , sorry, had to do it), and I know he doesnt like a rough ride.

Like somebody else said, its your dime, do what you need to do, But be prepared with the hassles of a bigger boat, more engines, etc. Personally, I would buy a 35, and save the extra$$$$ for a little more stretch on the house when your ready, remember houses make $$$$(especially in South Florida), boats lose $$$$(especially in South Florida :laugher: :laugher: )

Oh yeah,

Mom is in town this weekend, and I will be at the races on the 4'th, But after sweatin my arse off workin at my warehouse(non A/C) yesterday, I decided I am going to finish the wellcraft off, and keep it for a few months, So, by the week after the 4'th we should be on the water in the loud bowrider :D :D, although not in Sonic style, we'll be on da water soon :D :D :D

Dont RUSH!!!! Wait for the right deal!!!

Im waiting im waiting.
Jeesh, its all good bro.

and the point of this purchase is for me NOT to sell in a few years down the road.
I want to keep this puppy for a VERY VERY VERY long time.
The baja was my stepping stone not this.
This is what im stepping up to.
and 85 + with trip 500's
They are carb engines, no funky efi's and other BS stuff.
But I say AGAIN IM LOOKING FOR A TWIN POWERED BOAT WITH HP500's
Ill consider the trip just because its affordable and ill bet dollars to donuts it runs smoother than the twin boat does!
Im saying I dont mind triples BUT im LOOKING FOR TWINS IF I CAN find it.

OK,

Just trying to keep you in check :D :D :D

Heck, I want a biga$$ boat too, but know I dont want to deal with the headaches, and no way can I afford a NEW one, so I'll stay small.

Although I wont be running on the outside on rough days, I can have almost as much fun in a 22 Donz, or 24 Pantera on MOST days :D :D , and not have the headaches.

Now I know Julie needs the Cabin, so I am not saying go the small route, but I also dont want to see you get something so big that you never run it due to the hassle of gettin' it in da water, or the after cleaning issue, or the handling around docks issue, or the big fuel bill etc. etc. etc.

What about when you pull up to shooters, or Bananna boat, or The Cove, or one of the places up on the river(yes, WE HAVE A A LOT OF TOURING TO DO STILL, you aint seen nothin' yet)and there is a perfect spot for a 35, but NO-WAY is a 42 footer going to fit there   , I see it all too often at the Roadhouse(remind me we need to go there some night), somebody pulls up in a big ole fishin' rig trying to take their buddies to a nice dinner on the water, and they are forced to idle in circles 'til somebody else finishes their dinner

I can't imagine how anyone in their right mind, thats somewhat on a budget, could even consider tripps with gas 2.69 on the water.. I put 180.00 in the boat for memorial weekend,,( didn't even fill the 110 gallon tank), then another 180.00 the following thursday,, still didn't fill it, and that was on the trailer at the gas station, with a mild H.O. SINGLE..

Nevermind when you need 3 new sets of exhausts, 3 impellers, 3 oil changes, 3 drive oil changes... i'm getting nauseous just thinking about it...

But hey, like was said,, it's your dime... good luck with whatever you end up with..

Hey, I resemble that remark! The only downtime I've had was early this year with the trannie cooling line causing me to burn the trannie, other than that, it goes everytime I put it in the water. Granted, I had to run six quarts of oil through it on the last poker run, but it was in the shop less than 24 hours to have those cooling lines replaced. And you are right, I don't love the ruff! I noticed this year at the boat show all those boys who claim to love the ruff ran on the inside to Gilberts that day. :) It's like when guys ask me how big a fishing boat they need for the gulf. I tell them when it's not rough, my 18 is plenty big enough, and when it's rough, THEY DON'T BUILD ONE BIG ENOUGH! :D
