Can anyone tell me about a motor from the serial number? It's a carbed Merc 454, serial number 0F557752. Don't have the motor in my possession to inspect. HP rating? Forged crank?

Call Merc. They can tell you what it is.

Also look at Doller offshore.

According to them it is a 1995-96 454 Mag Gen V. Does not show hp rating.

That engine is a 1995 7.4L 300 HP (not a Mag.) Originally came in a Sunsation. It will have the cast internals and small heads.

MattBMiller, sorry to off track your post. I just need to know where do I look on my mag 454 for the serial number. When trying to order any part's from the marine shops they ask for the year of this engine,which I don't know. they say go look on the rocker cover , near the starter for a rectangle metal tag with # on it ,or the flame arrestor which i don't have .cant find any numbers.
