This ones for you Scott. Decided to add a little bling to my motors. You wont be able to see it from the topside, but when you go to change the oil, it should be visable. :D The pic is kind of poor, but the colors are red, yellow and white.
Did you use those markers sitting there on the table? :laugher: Just funnin' with ya. :winker:

You should know me better then that. I went to the store and bought some Crayola markers. I figured they would work until I get water in the bildge. :laugher: Seriously, they are oil base paint markers. We use them at work. They do wonders when you get a scratch in a car. If they can hold up going thru the spray for 10 mins, should last a lifetime for me.

If you look at the attached pic you can see the hinge pin that the ram attaches too is recessed about 6-6.5 inches from the bottom face of the hatch. So I am having a piece of billet aluminum machined and drilled with the same bolt pattern as the hinge pin itself.
Basicly it will act as 5 inch extension block so the hatch will raise up high enough to work on the motors.
When Sunsation install's these hatches on the Innovator, they use a custom made ram that has a 30 inch stroke and cost's $500.00. Mine will be 24 inches of stroke with the 5 inch extension block for a total of 29 inches which will do the job nicely for a fraction of the cost.
Ah I see, My ram doesn't lift the hatch high enough but it is not recessed like yours and your fix won't work for me but it should turn out nicely for you.

Spoke to my mechanic a few days ago. Good news from the machine shop. Both blocks are in great shape. The blocks were Hot Tanked and they were able to get the Merc paint off of them. Both blocks were Sonic checked and no cracks were found, Cylinders were in line and no cracks in the webbing. Decks height was good. The decks measured 10.185. This will give me a 3 thousands piston to deck height. Merc did a good job milling them done from the original 10.2. There is enuff meat in the cylinders to go with the 4.560 bore that i need to make them 572 ci. The original bore was 4.440. Just need to line hone the the mains due to they are off alittle. I believe the pistons, rings and bearings have been ordered. Should know by the end of the week.

Glad to hear it T-Man. I finally got the backrest for the new hatch installed so my winter upgrades are officially done.
Everything turned out awesome and it changes the whole look of the boat in my opinion. Bring on summer!!!! :winker:

Crayola crayons are water proof. :D

TMan, setting quench? What head gasket brand and thickness?

CR staying stock-ish?
These are a new experimental crayons. :laugher:

What do you mean "setting quench". Im am still learning all the procedures about rebuilding a motor. Thats why I am haveing a pro do it. I will ask him though. Not sure on the head gaskets yet or thickness. Any suggestions?.

CR staying stock-ish.

Did you want to say, Are you keeping the motors stock?

CR=compression ratio

Quench is distance from piston face to head.

As fas as motors stock, no don't.
Hopefully you will recam it...
My original CR was 8.6:1. It was installed with JE Blower pistons in stock form. I believe we are going to bump it up to either 9:1 or 9.5:1. Just have to get back with the mechanic and find out for sure. We were more concerned with the blocks being good first. I will be using Cstraub for my camshafts. Just waiting to get my heads back from the shop. They are going to give me the original flow numbers and the new numbers when finished. Then I will give Cstraub my info and what I am looking to get out of the motors and have him grind me some new cams. I will find out what the quench is when we start working on them. Still in the process of getting all of the parts together.

Stopped by the head shop this morning. Had 3 valve seats that were bad. Pic shows one seat that was cracked. Kind of hard to see in pic. Shop is going to replace seats today and try and finish up with the heads this week. Shop just needs to finish up the chamber work, decking and bowl blending. Will be going with 2.30 intakes and 1.88 Inconel exhaust. Chambers are already opened up for a 4.60 bore. Heads will be flow tested when complete.

Cstraub,

I am hoping to have all the info in the next couple of weeks so we can get going on the cams. Can you give me a list of things you are going to need so I can make sure and get the correct info from them to help speed up our process.

Chris,
Flow numbers I need are in the following lift ranges for both:

.400
.450
.500
.550
.600

Need final compression ratio. Other then that we will just need to talk about what your goal is, rpm range you want to run in and such.
