What's the good, bad and ugly on these things?

I hear they are bullet proof if treated properly, what's that mean?

Everyone recommends a service at 250-350 hours, what would the "typical" cost of something like that mean?

Had a 29 Fever with a single 525SC. The only real maintenance issue with these motors is the blower bearings - rebuild the blower about every 200 - 250 hours and tou'll be fine, as long as you keep the stock pulley. Add a smaller pulley and the life of the bearings decrease. The compression is relatively low and they tend to be a little weak on the low end, but acceleration is good once the huffer winds up.

Blower rebuild is about $900 =/- if I recall - I had mine sent to the Blower Shop and they did a great job - quick turnaround.

Thats all it is
454 Mag engine, all forged internals with a 174 (discontinued now a 177) Weiand (Holley all the same company now) blower up top with a holley 850 CFM marine carb.
Cast iron rectangle heads

Good engine for the price since everyone wants to go 502 or bigger these days.
Great engine to mate to a bravo as well on a small to moderate weighted hull.
Seen PLENTY of 42 fountain triples with the first Gen 525 sc's in them, all ran very well.
Dont load up, dont surge at idle, they are very well tempered.
