well its either make a flat lid and put the harwood scoops on OR make a mold with the raised rectangle boxes like the apache or scarab scoops.
Those are my 2 options.
I would not try to use one harwood scoop as a mold and make 2 molded into a flat hatch, that would take way too much time, efforts and the plug would take weeks to work out and perfect before laying one bit of glass on it.

I vote no scoops at all. They're just a pain to work around, a pain to walk around, more money, more time, and they don't add any value to the boat - they may even take away from the the boat. Sorry, Jason, I just don't see the sense if they're not needed.

If you do add them, make sure that you set them so that you'll still be able to fully open the hatch; that was a problem on the stinger... that and the the fact that the cover wouldn't fit anymore.

Simple plug to mold to part
Obviously the more intracate the piece you want = more time invested in carving, sanding, finishing, perfecting, measuring, measuring, measuring ect ect
Its not that its hard, it is just time consuming more or less

After seeing the scoops on the boat I would like to retract my earlier comment. I think the post #53 would be a good way to go. The best of both worlds. I think that the scarab/apache style would date the boat to much.

My opinion,

do it like post 53 if you are going to do it at all, that pic of your boat with those scoops looks terrible, reminds me of what these kids are doing with the Honda's.

Put a big *** wing on the back, for what reason?

No offense Jay, but that boat looks better flat in the back.

If all you are wanting is airflow, and not clearance for taller motors, what about molding in some NACA ducts either on the sides (replace the grille vent style) or perhaps even on the top of new hatch.
In addition, some vents on the rear of the hatch/transom area will allow the air to flow out as well as in the engine compartment.

Jay.. I have a friend that totally rebuilt a older Mirage...31' I think... he did an awesome job on his hatch... he took 1/8'' alum. diamond plate..with the smoothe side up..had the sides bent on a sheet metal break ..made into pans..the diamond tred facing into the engine compartment.. then he upolstered the top... ended up rasing the hatch 6-8''......still had a sun pad...you could put air in and out vents...billet or louvered.. he even put 4 head rest on it... Ill try to get some pictures...my 02....
