Looking for real experience with 22 Classics.....
I know some of you have them, or have had them.

I have always liked them, and I came across one I might be able to pick up at a decent price.

I know what the boat is (small, sit down), but my concern is with how they ride in the bumps... Like crossing boat wakes...

I have no intention of taking it out in the ocean (duh!)

Let's hear it kids.

the kicker in the deal is that the boat has an OMC... yes that's right OMC.

King cobra 460 with OMC drive. Not what I want by any means, but I'm trying to buy it right.

And I come to find out the boat has no trailer.

I wonder how fast it will run with the OMC and 370 hp??

The setup has 200 hours and the lower was rebuilt on the drive...

I may go look at it this weekend, but I don't want to waste my time, or the seller's time if I can iron it out before hand...

It's Good To Be King!

:D I have enjoyed our 1993 22 Classic over the last 5 years, I picked it up in Fall of 2000. It had a 454 - 330 Horse Motor...I drove it like that until 2004...when we dumped some serious naturally aspirated ponies in it...

The King Cobra is a very forgiving Drive... I have had Zero Performance issues with it.

Now that it has a Healthy HP 500 EFI in it...it will go 80 mph on command... the Torque is unbelievable.

The boat flys Straight , Flat and I am totally addicted to it... a close friend liked ours so much he ordered a 2005 and dumped his 33 footer.

Yes ya lose all of the Cabin Fun, and Ya can Trailer it to your hearts Content, Squeeze into tighter Dock Spaces...too

But once you get Seat Time.... their are few boats that Replicate the overall Hull Performance of the 22 Classic.

Ya feel much more connected to the water when ya drive a classic...larger boats are awesome don't misunderstand me...but running a Donzi...any Donzi Classic is always an attention getter...

Jeff & GEB have seen our boat... we all play in the same Sand Box... if things behave I am planning on Running in Rock the Bay this Fall... come on over and join in the Fun.

I enjoyed it with 300 horses... I am in love with it with More! BTW.... I still have it connected to the King Cobra.

Wanna See Pics or Movies go to our Site.

Private Mail Me if ya wanna talk... I Trailer this thing to too many Events... I have a whole Variety of Seat Time...some fast...some slow...but all Good.

....Uh, yea he's got it told to you right, I've been in boats all of my life in many different shapes and sizes. Donzi classics (in my book) are one of the greatest hulls ever produced. To think that these hulls (16, 18 footers) have been virtually unchanged for several decades, (the 22 has been virtually the same since the early 80's ) and they still perform/out perform several boats built in recent years says a lot....
I relate this to sports cars, think, Shelby 427 Cobras,
fourty years old, but they can hang with the best of todays supercars...
Just my $ .02

OK, but the relationship also applies to top speed!

A Shelby 427 is only good for 150mph before it goes whacko from handling issues!
===
Same thing with old small boat designs. They accelerate like no tomorrow, but the top end is the limiting factor, unless you dump the Merc and go with something like the Arneson, which Geoo did...

Yeah, my brother owns an FFR 427 Cobra. I never want to go over 100 in it!! Scary stuff...

Point taken, but we are talking about a vehicle built in the mid 60's.How many other street legal (right off the showroom floor) vehicles even made it to 150 mph in 1964...Sure a Cobra will get squirly at 150 mph, in certain handling conditions! I've got a Dodge Viper that will get squirly (especially around 150 mph if I ever get there) in certian handling conditions as well. I would say a 22 classic would be the same in reference to rough handling conditions on water, depending partly upon your skill as a driver. Even a newer boat like your 22 ZX, or other boats in this size range, will handle squirly in certain water conditions on top end. My point is making reference to a boat that was decades ahead of its time with regards to performance/styling, much like the Cobra. If they werent a great boat, i.e. styling/performance they wouldnt build them today. Just like all of the Shelby Replicas that are built today, trying to duplicate a great car of yesteryear.

I've said it before, the Donzi Classics are my favorite boats, and if we're lucky enough to have a home on the water someday, I WILL own one! :) Dr Dan's Donzi is totally AWESOME!! :vcol: I was truly amazed the last time it passed us on the NE River! And I think he had 4 people in the boat! :D

Definitely buy the boat and bring it up to RTB! :vcol:

I alway tell the wife that if she ever gets her cruiser we have to be in position for me to have my hot rod classic 22 tied up to it :winker: the analgy of a light quick sports car that handles like it on rails is a good one! If you thumb thru your magazine rack such as poker runs, you'll notice about the only boat smaller then a 24 is the classic, someday I'm grab one with a 502, anybody have a pic of the new shelby model? the silver with blue stripes is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
