Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.
Finally started tearing into the engines last night. I got most everything off the block last night. I wasn't able to get the oil filter and cooler off last night. While in the process of removing the water / fuel separator, I put the filter on the ground and saw clear liquid running out of it. I thought "No big deal, it's just water..." Well, suddenly the water got a really strong smell of gasoline to it. I then looked over at the Propane bullet heater I had kicking in the garage last night and decided that my work environment probably wasn't the safest. This is when I decided to wrap things up for the night (hadn't even started drinking my cheap beers yet).
Still have yet to determine the root cause of my problem. Although I'm 98% sure I burned a piston, I have yet to see this myself. All the intake and exhaust ports looked fine, as did the valves. I was going to cap off the night by pulling out the spark plugs and seeing if I could notice anything, but the sudden gas baptism of the garage floor forced otherwise. Hoping to get this engine finished by the weekend then have the other torn apart by next week.
Things are moving slowly, but steadily. I couldn't imagine doing this in the heat of the season, that would be no fun!
