Saw a new 292 fasTech at the show loved it. I'm alittle partial to formulas though. A far as the power i have twin 350 mags in my 272 sr1 and roughly 58 to 60 is tops in mine. I do not have a steped hull and i am bone stock in my motors running 23p cleavers. If i was goning to by another one i would go to a 311 with bigblock power. my .02 good luck shopping

 

I don't think you could go wrong with either choice. The newer 292's will run about 70 with the 350's. Same with the Donzi. I'd buy whichever I found a better deal on a boat in great condtion.

I like both the Donzi and Formula . Choose which ever the both of you like . I know Formula offered the twin 6.2 package , don't know about the Donzi . I would choose the 6.2 over the 350 .

 

I happen to love both of those two boats in that size range. I've always prefered the Formula but I'm guessing you'd find a much better deal on a same year Donzi.

 

If you get a 1999 or 2000 Donzi LOOK for SERIOUS STRESS CRACKS in the fairing.

I had issues with a 1999 and a 2001. Steve Simon assured me the lay up issue was corected before his passing. My 2003 has no issues.

If you go 1999 or newer the Donzi stepped hull will be the faster boat by several MPH. IMHO

They are BOTH great boats.

I think the Donzi will have a more spacious feel to teh cabin... I think boath boats are great, and would come down to the "feel" of one over the other/..

 

Said again you cant go wrong with either boat comapany, they have both been around along time and stand behind their products. I went to the show yesterday and depending on the price you pay Formula is offering 2.9% for a 20 year loan. Thats not a bad rate.

I have to agree tough to beat the quality and ride of a Formula. However, their recent graphics are getting uuuuuggggly.

I had the chance to drive a Donzi 28ZX with twins.....I wasn't impressed. I did not think the ride quality was as good as a Formula. The rigging was excellent, and great job on their graphics. But, I found the Donzi cabin is pretty bare, and cockpit a little tight. The boat is not even 28' OAL, including the swim platform. Throw in bolsters, and a little to cramped for my taste.

Best to try them both and decide for yourself.

 

I've been on both boats and personally love the the bigger donzi's, but in the two your comparing, I'd go with the formula. Good luck!!!

 

they had a twin scorpion pkg on the 28zx
i would give the new donzi27zr a look very agressively priced an will be able to hang or out perform both with a single bb , the 496ho will run in the 70's also a 525hp available too probably some trade off in cabin accomodations though
saw a nice formula at the AC show thought the graphics were better than usual

I do like the 292 and would buy a Formula over a Donzi but checkout the cabin and cockpit and see what is best for your needs, I found the V berth in the Formula smaller than in my 25 Sunsation.............

Look at the fine print, @ the fall boat show they offered that for the first 18mo then up to 7..............with 20% down + tax, destination etc...

 

There was a 28 Zx with Scorps for sale around here a couple months ago for I think $69k.

Nelems marime has a super clean 02 292 Formula with about 190 hrs on it and they are FRESHWATER hrs..I know the boat well, it is my old one and the only reason I traded was to go into a 27pc Formula for a change in boating style. The boat had no dock rash, the bunk had never been slept in and it has a custom bimini top. It lived inside at my shop in Orlando Fl.

The NY boatshow was much like 3Wood mentioned. 1.85% for 18 months and then 2.49% for the remaining 18.5 years.
