OK,
I have been holding back on you guys,
Last week I was offered a 24 Pantera, I threw it out there to get some ideas from everyone, but bottom line is, I couldnt purchase it until I found employment, so I didnt want to tell you it was mine. The reason I didnt tell anyone about the job, or boat is, I was waiting for the Background, and Drug tests to come back, I knew they were no prob, but didnt want to jinx myself.
Last thursday I went for a few job interviews, and was hired on the spot at one of them, A dental implant company, I will be doing Quality Control. This company has 70 CNC lathes, and 2 six axis machines, great benefits, overtime. The only bad thing is the commute, while I am driving 30 miles south each way now, this is 40 miles north(thru West Palm Beach), I will be training on first shift, then moving to second, or third shift in a few weeks, so the commute may not be too bad at night, but we'll see. I am contemplating moving to the Jupiter area, just North of where the new job is, within a year, but Jen is a school teacher, and changing jobs mid-year is not possible, so most likely over next summer I may be moving.
OK, Back to the boat, I went and looked it over yesterday, it definitely needs to be completely refurbished, but the structure is 100% solid. and being an outboard it will not be so bad. Lack of amenities on a 24 race boat(it has always been configured like this, but has been underpowerd with a single 200 for many years), it has little wiring. I will rewire everything, replace all guages, replace all cables, rerig the entire boat, repair a few stress cracks, clean up the bottom, and repaint the entire boat in the next year or so, then run it for a while on the single, and see if I want to add more power.
We had a little trouble firing up the outboard(1985 Merc 200 2.4 litre Black Max), due to it sitting so long, I think the kill switch wiring was off or something also, But I have Angel getting it running, and I will go down to do a COmpression check as soon as he does. At that point I will hand him the check, and I will be a Pantera Owner
