IMHO, you're much more likely to get reliable information from sites like this one, than you are from Powerboat or a similar magazine. Anyone else notice the correlation between Powerboat's umpteen different awards and the number and size of advertisements purchased by certain manufacturers? Nope, me neither. ;)

That Tiger is one of the most beautiful boats I've ever seen. I would love to own it. :D

But whats your point? XR's? Does the boat have extended warranties? If not I would think about putting some money in the piggy bank for a broken day.

Jeff

FYI, The starboard side broke this Saturday. I hope I just had the bad luck of buying a boat with defective gears. :( and this doesn't happen anymore. Our season is way too short to lose time like this.

Any word from PowerBoat yet?

laster - in your favor is the weight/hp ratio on your boat...

how much does your boat weigh and let's calculate the weight/hp and use that number as a "load factor" on the drive.

the higher the number the higher the load.

for instance:

My boat with a full load of fuel is 13,000 lbs.
HP is about 1,250

therefore my load factor is: 10.40

let's assume for a minute that your boat weighs 4,000 lbs and has 600 hp, therefore your load factor is: 6.66
(oooooh - sign of the devil :)

in any event - you have a much lower (lighter) load factor. therefore your outdrive is not being taxed as much as mine.

Jeff,
I don't know the formula. But it is being divided by two? Right? Two engines at 625hp each, and two drives theoretically splitting the load (13,000 lbs) correct?

Never mind, I answered my own question. :)

In view of circumstances that have recently come to light it looks like you are "putting your money where you mouth is". I am looking forward to seeing how the XR drive stands up behind Whippled HP500s in a heavy boat. Could influence my next buying decision. You just can't get this kind of unbiased reporting anywhere else.
after 20 hours... no problems to report...

:)

Hey Jeff, I wonder how Mercruiser felt about that add? Seems like a punch in the face for them. You know what I mean?

Me, I think drive problems are part of the business once you get above the 500hp mark, unless you take care of them and watch em like hawk.

Drives are like fine ladies. I inspect mine before each outting. You know, smell em, lick em, taste the drive fluid. :laugher:
