I am seriously considering this boat.

http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/5/9/1391659.htm

HP500 EFI's are warrantied through the end of this year and have 120 hours on them. Drives have 30 hours on them.

I'll need to buy a trailer and will most likely get an aluminum Ibeam triple axle triple disk brake trailer.

thoughts?

Somebody has done an awful lot of work on a 5 year old boat - new engines, drives, an "updated" interior. Why? Especially for a rack-stored boat? What are the hours on the hull itself?? Why is there a 90 hour difference between engines and drives?

This could be a great deal, but I would be rather cautious about it. Somebody might be trying to hide something.

Just my $.02

that's what I thought when I started dating GreenEyedBeacher......I had to break a couple of hearts when I fell for her....

Nothing wrong with spending some time in a candy store. Had seriously considered a 31 Sonic but it's not enough of a move. The Sonic 358 is also very tempting, but if I'm gonna spend big bucks, I want a CIG!

Karen and I had a lot of time to sit and talk over the weekend and we were flying to and from Florida to a wedding we had to attend.

I concluded that I was just kidding myself with anything I bought because I knew I'd ultimately wind up with a Cigarette.

Splinter went for a sea trail with me in another boat I was thinking about buying and during the ride a Cigarette flew by us and I thought to myself at that point...."who am I kidding...I'll never be happy until I own a Cigarette of my own". All the other boats are great meet lots of needs for individual preferences of many owners, but I guess for me the bottom line and that I want a Cigarette and will sacrifice cabin space to get one. The Top Gun does have a cabin and an enclosed head.

We chatted about what was really important and for us we like to go out even when conditions aren't great. We like to go down the bay 40 or 50 miles and it's often really nasty on windy days. We hate to get tossed around. This boat will eat up the snot - big time...no doubt. The only time we actually spend in the cabin is cooling down with the A/C on after a long ride and sleeping at night. The CIGs have a nice vberth because their not shaped like missiles at the front. They also have a small head that Karen can use in the middle of the night instead ot trapsing through a dark parking lot on her way to the restrooms.

That is an AWESOME looking boat !

I would be cautious though, why would a 1996 boat need a new interior ? , motors, drives ?

I own a 1997 boat with over 300 hours and it looks as good as the day it was bought , with the exception of a few scratches here and there.

Even though it is a great looking boat at a decent price with new power , will you be happy going 72mph ? That speed has got to be pretty boring in that boat.
If you don't think it will keep you happy ,my opinion would be finding something that needs power or already has big power.

I have to agree with 26scarab. 72 in that boat is going to seem pretty slow to you. It's gonna take some major horsepower to make that thing really run. That said, if you won't be happy with anything but a Cig - BUY A CIG . Otherwise you're just playing around.

Laster for the water I run in..there are very few boats that can really go out and average 50 mph - because of the conditions....;

this boat can.....

don't forget that 38 top guns weigh nearly 10,000 lbs ...there's not much that's better in the snot than these things...

except maybe a 41 apache or a 42 cig...

Would it be correct to assume that the owner (after spending some serious $$ on this boat) has found something else he likes better than this??

Wish I had that kind of $$. But if that's the case and the boat is really as flawless as advertised, then go for it.

They do run nice in the slop, that's for sure...

Don't know about the clearance - but would that void any of the existing warranty?

Funny - the guy that sold the Stinger had just added a new baby into his family, just after he spent some cash on rebulit motors - the ones that weren't put together right - that we just replaced.

Sorry if I sound cynical - consider it me being the devil's advocate....

Sweet Ride!!!

Like splinter said, FIND A FLAW!!! LOL!:laugher: Seriously though, if the survey goes well, looks like you may have found a good buy. Just make sure the surveyor does a pressure and dye test, as well as check the engines THOROUGHLY. I've heard too many horror tales about getting a clean bill on the boat, and then engine failure.
Keep us posted!

FIND A FLAW AND IT IS FREE --- ????

Well, here you go - this is from looking at the pictures in the BoatTrader ad link

1. Look at the engine picture shot. There is a hose disconnected underneath the starboard engine. It is connected on the port engine. Not sure what that might be, but you can see the end of the hose barb sticking out at the bottom of the picture.

2. Look at the drive picture. Missing an end cap on the port engine inside drive cylinder.

3. There is a sender on the fuel/water separator (?-fuel pressure?) that doesn't appear to be wired up.

4. Look at the IP photo. Engines would appear to be off, judging by the pressure gauges but the one tach and the syncronizer would indicate that one of the engines is on. Sorry, but for that kind of $$ they should read correctly, even with the engines off.

And to think that the compression tests, leakdown tests, drive checks, etc. haven't even started.....

SO IS IT FREE NOW????

Dave - you should be proud of me....
1) I'm moving up to the one of the most respected names in the business - Of course we all know that Sunsation IS THE MOST RESPECTED NAME.

2) I'm moving to a size boat you don't currently offer.

3) I will gladly wait 18 months for the SS355 if you give me a 32 to use with 496/HO's or HP500 EFI's until the SS355 is available.

Sounds fair to me...

At least I'm not leaving Sunsation to buy a 32 Hi-performance Bayliner :)

ha ha !
