Anyone know the diff between an Alpha and Bravo 1?
I ask because my boat weight is 2900 dry advertised, but is came with an 454/Alpha. I have a Bravo1 now...

Similarly, anyone know the weight diff bwtween a BB and SBC? bling has a 22 Scarab, book says 3200 dry, but it came with a 454, now has a 350 Mag.

Thanks!

I'll tell ya where the "chub" comes from...knowing that you won't smoke a drive when you nail it!! I've got 330 in front of an unkown Alpha 1 gen 1 and I am always carefull with the stick, I hate the unknown. I want to NAIL it and not worry about it!

Oh, BTW, Merc's book say's that a 5.7L weighs 480#'S.
That is for heads & block, etc.

454 weighs 694#s per their core return policy.

Lose cast iron intake - 20lbs on SBC and 30lbs on big block

Lose cast iron exhaust manifolds - 40-50lbs on either

Lose cast iron cylinder heads - 20lbs or so on SBC and 40lbs or so on BBC

Now whe are talking !!!

Put the motor on a diet and it's just as good as more hp !!!

Boats are way different within each other but with cars 100lbs can equal 10hp. So, 1000lbs can equal 100hp.

Weight matters ! Extra weight cust speed and extra weight puts more stress on the engine and outdrive.

There's a reason why small cats with huge motors can use stock/near stock Bravo's.

Woohoo i wonder what thats does vs hp between 454 and 350 vs weight i should be close to pushing the same
As has been said, weight is a huge factor.

With a SBC vs a BBC, there is also a huge torque difference.

With an SBC, you need to prop at the top end of the HP curve even more, for max speed.

With my boat for instance, it is only available now with a SBC 350 mag. The speed difference between that (300hp) and the older available 7.4mpi (310hp) is virtually the same in top end. But the hole shot and acceleration is better with the BBC.

Now, ask me if what I have for power now makes any difference!!!!

Bling, I now have an HP500 carb in my boat, installed last winter!!

My old power was a 7.4mpi.

You can do the math, but I went from 63 gps on a perfect day to 75 gps on an average day. My best has been 78.2 gps! The 80mph Gaffrig II speedo is normally BURIED!

Here's a motor pic just before installation...
