I just purchased a Baja Outlaw 20. I am trying to figure out what fluids I need to change (i.e. engine oil, gear,) and what kind of fluid to use. Also, can I switch to synthetic engine oil?? Thanks

If you just bought it change all, engine, outdrives and do fuel system also. If you plan on running synthetic commit to it and run it from here on out. If you want to switch to synthetic have the person doing the service drain all fluids in question even the res because non synthetic and synthetic can gel. Good luck on your new ride.

Mixing synthetic and non synthetic will not hurt anything. Even if you change you can go back whenever you want. Its a myth that synthetic and non dont mix and once you change you cant change back. I worked for Pennzoil for 8 yrs before they merged with Quakerstate. I am a certified ASE tech. We technicians get this question all the time. Its funny that people still think this way. Companies even put a statements on their bottles that synthetic is fully compatable with conventional oils.

Change the gear oil. If this is your first boat, buy the kit that comes with the pump and the High performance Gear Lube. Cheap, and easy.

Stick with the oil that the former owner was using. Just run conventional. Its more important that you change it often. I change mine every 10-12 hours. On a stock motor like that, I would say you can go 25-40 hours or one season on the oil. Just continue to monitor levels. Get a Wix filter not some cheap brand.

Change the Fuel Seperator and depending on the motor, the fuel filter.

Enjoy the boat.

My bottle of QuickSilver HP (synthetic) has warnings on the label not to mix.
I have been told that ALOT of times. I am no scientist, but the Merc techs at our marina(no scientists either), the bottle's label, and everything else I have ever heard says no mixy...??
I DO know that you CANNOT mix the red DexCool Antifreeze with regular green stuff though!
