I'll go out on a limb here and say that way more often than not when a new engine or newly rebuilt engine takes a dump it is because of rigging !

Bad carb or improperly calibrated for new engine. Huge issue !

Same thing with fuel injection.

Fuel system issues - pump/line/fittings/etc,etc

=================
These are out of the control of the rebuilder/supplier however they get schitted on for it.

See it all the time !

Now, that said. I do see many horrible 'engine building' technique's too, if you want to call them techniques.

Lastly, just because the new builder calls the old builder an idiot does not mean he was. :D

BD,
20 years ago yes, but since the kids took it over they have come in the last 15 to 18 years and make one hell of a product.

The marine stuff goes down a seperate line. The SBC use new World SR heads and the engines are built to Merc spec. They put poly locks on the marine engines and not just jam nuts. They make a nice piece. Everything is 100% run tested on propane to check oil pressure, compression test, and to make sure there are no leaks.

I will also say it is one of the cleanest facilities I have ever seen.

His BBs had GM heads..{These were the low-po marine}
miss-matched rods diff types of valves...nothing to inspire confidence.2 Spun bearings.....A little
clearancing issues maybe ? one sucked a valve

I should say...They stood behind the warranty 100%
I believe they even paid for new oil coolers. You just loose a month each time & our season is to short for that.

If the family truckster blows up. I would use Jasper in a heartbeat.

stingray69, what are you trying to do to me, :laugher:
i just got off the phone trying to convincing my XYL about buying that $3054 engine.which is $3554ca and another $600 shipping.

stingray, ill get that gen 4 . i'm totally turned off with this boat. I'll sell it for summer, and buy something longer like u boys. this is my third summer owning a boat.

also called the mechanic that destroyed my engine,to ask him about the rotation he said ''clockwise''.he also said if you change the cam gear's it will turn a different direction.

Man of war don´t believe in the hype about MarkIV wear issues.
You get Valvoline Maxlife oil or pennzoil GT or any other paraffin based (read made from home soil american crude oil ) like Quaker State and you´ll have no issues...ok you just want a sell rebuild.
Go with the Marine Inc engine, good enough.
Those rods look good although they are general BBC rods meaning lo-po 3/8s.
[When] Building a high perf you don´t want those in a boat.

You want left hand.

DO NOT GO Mark IV. Read the thread on FLat Tappet Wear Issues; go modern.

Get the Gen 6 502. You will be starting way ahead in terms of power and long life.

$5369-no tax.

So Stingray whats the main issue regardin wear in MkIV vs. MK VI?
Roller lifters nothing else and you can get them to any engine man has built.

If he's pawning it, then whatever. That's a new revelation.

If you are buying for personal use, then Flat Tappet cam/lifters is 10 year old tech from the OEM's, and if you are gonna keep it then why stay with old tech. Besides, any roller lifter setup is much more conducive to racing/HiPo use that flat tappets.

Why would you NOT WANT rollers?

Thats a good question And I cant answer that as Harley Davidson has used roller lifters since 1930´s.....

I just asked you what makes the difference there between them blocks (Mk4 vs 5)
Answer. No provision for a mechanical fuel pump and a cooling pattern upgrade that hasn´t proved any better.

Thats a very good question....Maybe find a used take-out 454 ?.....You are not going to get much of a rebuild for 3k.....It would scare the hiil outa me .
Well if you have the thumb right smack middle in your paw then I don´t blame you for being scared and not believing that 3K will give you a rebuild with fairly stout parts.
But it needs some genuine good old fashioned Hot Rodding to get it done.
Them great deals ain´t to be found on Wall street with a suit stuck up your rear.

And guess you can´t change tires on the rims of your car/trailer either, not even with shop tools.

As always..I'm not quite certain what you are trying to say..But....I think he is looking for someone else to build him an engine. And 3k for a complete engine, Parts, labor and machine work...Ain't much

Depends what you´re doing.
Just a Rebore and a head job plus balancing and you´ll get by barely with 3K providing you do the assembly, even here.
But if something else for 3k you´ll get just a load of stout parts.
The 496 we dreamed about done outside would´ve landed at 5k at least.
Well I cant say I´m happy to have a backdoor to machine shops so I can do the work myself and rent only engine time, it takes time and it has cost me money regarding spent time to learn things.
Could´ve spent my times more viser to earn more money but that ain´t me, I like to do my stuff so I don´t have anyone to blame and know where I set the tolerances.

Hot Rodding=to know how to get the best bang for the buck and doing it yourself.
Did I make myself clear now ?
