I've read everything I could find and am looking for anything more anyone could offer on best options for good flowing exhaust manifolds... without breaking the bank much further than I already have. These will be going on a 383 that a local marine builder is putting together for me (mild by some of your standards, but far from stock). He recommended IMCO powerflows based on previous dyno experience and I will probably wind up going that way.
so far...
IMCO powerflows... have yet to hear negative, good reputatoin, fit and finish look good as well.
EMI's about the same as above, only a little cheaper I think...
stainless marine
Hard for me to see a lot of difference between these in terms of relative cost range and probably performance range. Among these three, I'll likely listen to the shop owner / engine builder, he runs one of the best machine shops I've ever seen and really seems to know his business... it has become very obvious why everyone I asked told me to go the same place...
Other options...
Revolutions, cheaper, fit and finish not as good, and I don't think the riser is stainless... corosion in the risers where it's really hot worries me... but the price tag is REALLY tempting.
dana's
GLM aluminum with my home-modified factory bb 496 stainless steel risers with a little added tubing to offset inversion.. can upgrade later...
Lightening headers (worry about them cracking... also the steel in the brackish), room is tight too... but would presumably make the most power of the realistic options for now...
Not even going to consider stainless lightnings, cmis or others full stainless tubular headers. there's just no way I can write a check for over 3 grand for the exhaust on this and feel good about it... that and I don't know how I would shoehorn them in there... To be honest, two grand for the exhaust is going to make me squirm hard if you know what I mean... that's a lot of gas money!
How about it, any experience or advice that might change my perspective?
