I've decided to keep it at home. I went to the local RV place last night and bought some big stakes to anchor the tail end.

I'll hook the front up to the truck and run some of my lines around the entire boat so that the full cover doesn't get too much air under and potentially ripped off.

the storm is weakening anyway as it gets closer to the coast.

Take the cover off, fill the cooler, face AB into the wind and experience what AB would feel like at 150mph!!!

Won't burn much fuel!!

Whatever you do, GOOD LUCK and I hope it heads back out to sea. That would solve a lot of problems for a lot of people!!

I would put it in the warehouse. Flying debirs could seriously damage your graphics and/or paint.
The thinking down here (Va. Beach) is that the storm is going more inland, and will weaken very rapidly. Where you are, you will likely see only a strong Nor'easter type storm. But whatever wx you get, I think the boat would be better protected inside.

i'd run 200 miles away from it.

when claudette came we were 60 miles inland from landfall. it hit land as a cat 2 and it was still a cat 1 when it hit us.

i saw some block storage buildings colapse. just about every steel roll up door on a steel shop was blown off the slides.

claudette was just a baby cane. i don't want to see the momma cane.

Yeah,
Why do you feel the need to stay home???????
Hook it up and go for a ride inland. Run out to amish country for the time being.. Why not? Why risk having your boat tattered?
I had my trailer ready to go in case the storm was coming here.
I wouldn't be worried about what cover to use, or how to ancor it.. because it'd be rolling out..

Jeff,

I think we are overlooking the obvious here. Seeing as you are selling the boat, just drop the price to a rediculous level and I will buy it. I would be down to pick it up tomorrow and it would be back in New York safe as a bug in rug before the storm comes. It is a win win situation for everyone! :D

Good luck with the storm. I hope everyone comes out of it safely.

haven't you heard?

I am keeping it - it's not for sale any longer...

I couldn't find anything nice enough to replace it.

Leave the trailer unlocked before it is blown away ( I can be there in 9 hours) call the Insurance Co and tell them there is a similar boat in Ohio that you can pick up for decent price. I will have a friend ;) deliver it to your home. Friend will pay the deductable!!! Cash DEAL!!!

let the air out of the tires to give the boat as low of a profile as possible. I have also heard people filling the bilge areas of the boat with water to weigh it down. I am not sure how your Cig. is set up so be carefull with that one.

Good Luck.

If it were mine, I wouldn't trust it to the forces of nature. Last fall a tornado was in the vicinity of my boat and I can tell you that an airborne 2' long 2X6 can leave some nasty marks.

I would hook up, head west and relax for a couple of days.

Unfortunatly there is no 100% place. Its a unfortunate thing to face. All you can do is make a decision and stick with it. I am with you, you have a nice open area at home stake it down and ride it out. Yes you have a chance of flying debris, but inside storage has a change of the building coming down on it.

I will say one thing,,, I dont envy Sy right now

My fingers are crossed for you.

Jeff,
I know all those other posters about taking your boat to their house are not sincere. So being the nice guy that I am, I think you should back up the family and head on down to beautiful south Louisiana and spend some time here. We'll spend a few days on the water and enjoy a different place to eat everyday.
After spending some time on the bayous here, you may not want to go back up north! :D :D

All bs a side, I think the boat would be better protected in a good strong building. Flying debris could do some damage.
Good luck up there and keep us posted.

Don't keep it inside! The Air Force found that out when Andrew hit Homested AFB. They couldn'tmove four or five fighters out and they all wound up piled in a corner of the hanger.

Like they said, make sure all loose debris is cleaned out of the yard, tie the cover down tight with padding under where the lines touch fiberglass to reduce chafing.
If possible try to shield it from direct winds. Maybe up close to the house?

Good luck, I'll be thinking about you guys.

Jeff,

I don't respond too often to the forums cause i don't know you guys, and i am down here in Augusta,GA. that is a long way away from you all, but i do read them all.
So, i gotta say it Jeff...I am really disappointed in you!
you got the nicest boat i have seen on this site(not to mention it is a Cig Top Gun!) you have said it yourself,
" it's a tank!"
How many times can a Man (you are da man right?) face off a hurricane? Get that cig fired up and head offshore. Blast your way thru those thirty foot waves and ride it out in the eye! it's the safest place to be.
be sure and take the vid camera along so we can all enjoy the ride!

seriously, we are a hurricane shelter in Augusta. only 200 miles from the Savannah coast. head down the coast until you get to Savannah turn right into the Savannah river and don't stop until you get to the locks. tell them your looking for Charlie, i'll be right down to take the keys for you.

ok seriously, good luck! i'd put her inside.

Hurricane Isabel although losing strength is heading right toward the Chesapeake Bay.

Of course; Rock The Bay Poker Run is postponed for a week until Saturday September 27th, 2003 - but in the meatime we have a storm to contend with. I store my boat on a trailer outside my house, but I have the option of moving it into a warehouse at the marina where we're having the Poker Run...

I am not sure it will be safer inside a warehouse either....

what do you guys think?

Safest place.......LOTO! ;) :D
