01 F250 PSD 4x4 80,000 miles
17MPG average, towing is 12 to 14 MPG at 63MPH.
2003 Donzi 33ZX 11,850 pounds full of gas.
We are very happy with this rig, I hope to have lots of future miles in her. Truck tows like there is nothing it can't do.
We have had a few hairy moments but always had the power to get the job done. (4X4 Low 1st gear when desperate)

The truck.

THe truck is sweet!! I hear ya seeming like there is nothing it cant do!! I moved this past week with my 00 Excursion V-10, Im very impressed with it!!

Fash2o-nice graphics on your ride...where did you get the hood from?? It looks good, Im looking at chaging my Ex hood and am trying to get ideas!!

Nice rides all! If it will ever quit raining I will post pix of my Ex here as soon as I can clean it up!

Post 93, fasterchevelle,
Which brand and size tire are you running on that Excursion? I am looking for reputable 18 inch E load Rated tires to fit 18x9 inch rims.

Thanks in advance.

I tow the 10,000 lbs rig with this 1500 w 150k on it, Doesn't like it much but it does the job.
This is the delima I'm having right now. Got a 1500 Silverado and am moving up to a 30'+ boat. I'd hate to have to buy a new truck since this one is almost paid for.

Just how much boat can I tow with mine. 5.7 w/ 3:73 gears, extended cab short bed truck.

After seeing Ran-Doms truck pulling his 32 sunsation, I'm feeling better about keeping this one for a couple of years, I don't have to tow very far. 5 miles each way.

Zen Don't sweat it. I just went to Boston and picked up my new 272 with my Silverado z71 x-cab with a 5.3 and had no problems. Hauled her home at 75 mph (I'm hard on equipment). I've also towed the boat this week with my wife's Escalade and no problem there either.
I think the p/u is rated up to 6500 lbs but that is bull. I've got a 33' RV that weighs in at 8800lbs and I take that down the road at 70 and even the steepest hills don't slow it dramatically.

Some of these pictures are a tad alarming.
Hills and braking capability define the tow rig for safety..
Story: when we towed the 33ZX home we went through two lights on 13S (Eastern Shore) because I waited to long to start braking! Del/MD have these lights that say PREPARE TO STOP, let me say, they mean just that.

i concur. is one of the many reasons i went with the duramax and allison tranny as it has the "jake brake" in the tranny.
one of my trucks from years gone by was a 96 chevy 1500 extra cab short box 4x4. i pulled a 48' trailer with 16 snowmobiles on it. made it from here to northern michigan and back. shortly after the following week i busted the shock towers clean off the frame in the rear. then i bought my '98 dually 4x4 with the 454 vortec, then ultimately my duramax. subatantially more $$$ BUT when i calculated the amount of $ i was spending in GAS each week,it actually panned out CHEAPER to buy the fully loaded duramax dually!
17mpg fully loaded and 22mpg empty. not afraid to pull anything w/this truck.
guess what i'm sayin' is that i totally relate to the guys w/the 1500's and such pulling HUGE boats but at the same time i KNOW what will eventually happen to those trucks doing so. the tranny's and frames simply aren't built for prolonged hauling of such a rig.

Thanks for the advise.

I have 2 options right now, spring for a new (to me) boat that will get towed maybe 10 miles a weekend with my 1500 (talking about getting a slip at the marina with a lift) and giving up doing any long distance towing, of which I can deal with for a few years.

or springing for a new truck 2500-3500 ect and waiting a year or 2 or 3 on a new boat.

I tend to like option #1 the best.

If anyone else has exp towing with a 1500, please chime in.

Thanks all

Although I wanted a 2500, the deals available today on a 1500 were just too good to pass up. I bought this 2004 4x4 Suburban LT / Z71 with all the goodies for $13,500 off the sticker earlier today. The down side is that my new (to me) boat search will now be limited to those weighing 8200 lbs or less.

:laugher: man, i ALMOST said ......" get a fifth wheel trailer" thankfully i re-read the post.
shouldn't be typing w/out having COFFEE FIRST.

very nice ride! i always liked subs. our last was a '98 custom and i LOVED that ride but we got rid of it 'cause we couldn't do anything we needed to do. bummed me out :(

there may be hope 4 you though.you can get a rig that exceeds the burban's tow cap if you have a custom trailer made. both eagle and loadmaster will custom build a trailer and set the axles according to your tow cap and tongue cap . may wnt to look into that unless you already have.
on the other hand, you "could" go with an aluminum "load-rite" trailer which has adjustable axles. ez-loader has the same thing but they aren't really "custom".

did you get the tow package w/large tranny cooler?
i know the Z's already have beefier shocks and spindles, etc.
i think that if you beef up the rear end so that the front doesn't "lift" that will help as well.

yep......what he said :D get a damned good compressor though and top grade lines like aeroquip.

w/air ride, you can set the pressure whenever ya need to......and won't look like a jackrabbit going down the road when your not hauling.
just gotta have the weight distribution right. you'll know it when ya don't as when ya go to turn, the front end will sway WAY bad......

I got the trailering package and the beefier gear ratios.... I am not clear on the upgrades. If I went with a loadmaster, eagle or similar, and installed the air bags, wouldn't I still have some liability in the event of an accident if I was exceeding the manufacturers load rating for the burb?
