For 1500 bucks...i found a wellcraft nova with a trailer, 1975, unknown engine hours, owner claims it runs good, 302 mercruiser and mercruiser outdrive, full tank of gas...

would you buy it...if it runs good....i might...just to screw around with it for 20-30 hours then maybe flip it over late spring

anything i should check for when i go check it out later this week?

Anything particular I should be looking for since its a 1975?
Rot!! Bring a wrench and try to turn the engine lag bolts. If theyre stripped walk. If the boat has an innerliner, it will be all cracked up, which probably happened in its first year. If it has a wood floor, it probably has been replaced. Its rare to see an old boat like that without bottom paint. If it runs good and stringers seem solid, I'd hit it. Probably a little undrpowered though, more than likely the 302 has the original 2v carb, a 188 hp Merc. The 351s had 233 hp, good for 40 mph plus.

Thats an old boat, people dont want an old boat like that. It would be a tough sell. It looks cool, but if you look around you will see a ton of boats for that same price range that are 15 years newer. :)

i have droped 1500 in a tittybar. if it runs for a summer why not? i have lived on the water 85% of my life and have killed some boats. i have used um up and had some i never changed the oil never washed never even took the key out at the bar docks and food spots. the best times i had as a kid have been in these boats. you tend not to care about 5mph dock rams. people with shoes on. stupid strippers putting burn holes in the hatch cover. beaching on a oster bed. banging the pile covered with barnacles. i love pos boats! put a bigshot nos in it. when you kill it put it on cl in the free section.

Only way I would if it belonged to someone I knew and was reasonably sure it would go a season without requiring major work. As others have pointed out right now boats like that are literally a dime a dozen as people cant give stuff away.

I bought a 1975 nova 21cuddy for much more and am very happy with it mine is a single engine and the trailer has only one axle , I have added another one as the boat is a bit much more just one axle. All in all I am very satisfied with the whole rig and have accomplished several improvements to date.
