I own a 1998 Wrangler Sport, and I have to agree with US1, it will pull anything. It is rock solid, but it is rather light.

I just returned from the US Virgin Islands and rented a 2007 Wrangler there. WHAT A POS!!!

Just walk up to any new one, and push on the hood. Boonka, boonka. IT PUSHES IN! I sat my daughter on the hood and it STAYED PUSHED IN!!!
I opened the hood and pushed up on the huge dent, and POP, it popped back out, but it still was kind of there.

AND one of the huge plastic fender flairs broke off when my daughter stood on it to climb in the rear side...She's been doing that with my 98 for almost a decade without a problem.

Plus, the whole thing is now computer controlled. Turn the key, and it knows when and how long to turn the motor over to start it. Hit the turn signal lever slightly, and it flashes the turn signals for a LONG time.

I hate it. It drives like a car. Far too mushy off road.
We took it on really vertical dirt roads on St. Johns island, and it sways way too much. It was almost scary.

The top would not seal in the front, and this had a little over 3k miles on it. The radio is far better though, but had these fugly little stand up tweeters on the dash, just waiting to be broken off....

The gas mileage is worse than mine, too. We went around 160 miles and the tank was EMPTY. Granted, this was rarely over 30mph, and almost all was up and down hills on the islands, but that is horrible...

I'll take my SOLID 1998 Wrangler any day over that POS.

Just my 2 cents...

My 1998 Wrangler Sport:
Inline 6
Dana 44 rear end with 410 gears.
Dana ?? front end.
Girly automatic for my wife.
30x9.5x15 w/aluminum wheels.

BTW: I got my Explorer SportTrac 4x4 buried up to the pan in muck a few years ago. My little Wrangler pulled it right out!!

I

Actually I used my '01 Jeep to pull my empty trailer home and snaped this pic for fun. Had a brain fade thinking I didn't need my Ford 250 since I don't trailer more than once a yr, so traded for the Jeep. I used the Jeep to move the boat around in my garge once, I could turn the front wheels by hand. :D The back went down until the axle sat on the stops, then the front came up. Only had the Jeep for 4 months, then back to a new 250 with the V-10. Now it sits in the garage only used twice last yr and once this yr so far,(boat to the lake) Another costly brain fade. :p:

The Wrangler was fun to drive though, but damn. Never seen a vehicle get such lousy fuel economy! What's up with that?

Yeah, my best guess is that the 2007 Wrangler we rented got around 8.5mpg. It had a 19 gallon tank... $4.04 per gallon there to fill it back up!!!

My 98 gets around 15 on a good tank, around 13 normally.

These things after all have the aerodynamics of a brick.

They are prolly thinking that their sales are up more than Toyota (or Honda or Nissan).

Silly.

If they are thinking that, they would be wrong. Or maybe they are planning to have some of their jeeps built in China like their parent company is going to do

I've owned 6 jeeps. Current jeep is a 2001 wrangler. 4" lift and 34x12.5's

6 cylinder, 5 speed.

The new jeeps pretty much suck.

Mileage? Becuase they are shaped like a brick, no brainer.

Though I get 15 out of mine.

Towing? Not hardly, they aren't designed for it, though I did tow my boat the other day, it was ok up to about 35.
