My initial thought that was that someone added headers and then claimed 475hp (415+60=475)
But it obviously doesn't have headers, and looks bone stock otherwise.
If the engine has been worked on (especially recently, considering the boat has 400 hrs) I would have to have documentation of some sort, and the name & # of who did the work in order to verify.
Hopefully they took better care of the boat/motor than they did the engine room.

 

I agree with the 415+60hp suggestion by waterboy, it could be the 500EFI also.

The 500EFI is actually rated less than 500hp, so it could be that engine. Per the engine flyer published by Mercruiser.

 

One thing I would question is how often it sits outside in rain storms with no cover on. For a boat listed as amazing condition and the nicest around I would think it would be treated better.

I was running my 272 this weekend with myself and another guy. Light fuel and running with the current.

We got 58.3 max wot

I have a basic 454 330hp spinning a 23 mirage plus.

cruise speed at 3200-3500 is roughly 33- 35 mph

im guessing with a 502 you should be cracking 70

I've known of 272s with 502s, and those boats won't break 70 stock. More like 67-68.

I assume thats the "Dream O Meter" that sounds at least 5 MPH too fast. Check that with a GPS and get back to us. When my boat was stock it ran 55 MPH on GPS with the same power and lighter boat.

 

Iv been eyeing this Baja 272 shooter that says it has a 502 merc that has475hp... Could it really be at 475hp?

I think its a misprint should be 415HP. You would need aftermarket exhaust to get that kind of HP and not get reversion.

 

Wow I would have thought you could get more than 74 with a 600hp?

Nope thats straight off a Garmin GPS this past saturday.

I will say the 58+ was a peak however I never dropped below 57 when maxed out and trimmed properly. I would say I ran a consistant 57.5+

 

Probably a typo unless there was motor work done.

And just to clarify ALL the 500 motor were rated at 500hp at the crank and 470 at the prop. This includes the HP500(carb), 500EFI and HP500 Bulldog.

mine is a 96..


NO I havent checked the depth of the drive. I have kept it bone stock so I assume its the standard depth. Unless they made them different that year or something

no its a 95 but someone told me i am giving up power... from my XR drive? also i am only turning 5,000 need to get some prop work done

I have gone as far as thinking about making an original then making a plug to form them from. Just a lot of work I just dont have time for right now.
